Big big thanks to Harley, Dan and Gus!!
We only have 200 amp hours of battery, but we will see how it holds up. Hopefully, with a more efficient solar controller and new AGM batteries, we will make it through the winter. In addition, power wiring has been simplified and upgraded.?
Several dollars, and at minimum, a combined 100 amateur time units have been put towards getting this machine up just before access to the site becomes very difficult until this coming June.?
Currently audio is going from 72 to 82, but not the other direction.

We
took a trip up to the 82 site with new AGM batteries and a programmable
MPPT controller. Existing batteries were all at 0.0 volts.?
With
new batteries installed and controller installed, I missed a crucial
change in the wiring color standard on the load side of the solar
controller. Long story short, I let the magic smoke out of
several?components of the repeater. I did everything I could to follow
the wiring and check polarity at each junction but missed at one spot.

I
will work on cleaning up and standardizing the wiring, making it very

Thanks Stacy! Hopefully our
roofing subject matter
expert can weigh in on needed materials. Not sure who that is yet :)
We
took a trip up to the 82 site with new AGM batteries and a programmable
MPPT controller. Existing batteries were all at 0.0 volts.?
With
new batteries installed and controller installed, I missed a crucial
change in the wiring color standard on the load side of the solar
controller. Long story short, I let the magic smoke out of
several?components of the repeater. I did everything I could to follow
the wiring and check polarity at each junction but missed at one spot.
We have hauled all the equipment back down to be looked over.?
I
will work on cleaning up and standardizing the wiring, making it very
easy for anyone to decipher and diagnose with fuse blocks, connectorized
disconnects and coherent colors.
Hopefully our
electronics guru Harley can find something easy to repair and we can
get the system back to the top of the mountain before the road is
impassable?on wheels.
Thanks to Dan for
transportation services and to Norm for his company and extra set of
hands.
I am very sorry to have created
additional issues at this site, but I do believe that when we are
finished, the 82 will be better and more?reliable than ever.

Not recycled batteries. ERA has room in the budget for this. I

200ah. -Determine power requirements for both systems by
measuring idle and transmit current. -Reconfigure existing
solar panels in series to minimize current loss on the lengthy?12

voltage from new panel arrangement?and provide low volt disconnect to
protect battery investment.? ? ? ?I had previously offered a
modern controller, but the PWM got used instead. I have already ordered

historical data for solar and load. -Determine if higher
gauge?wire can be pulled through existing underground conduit. -Consider
Bi-facial solar panels to make better use of vertically oriented panels
at this site if funds become available.
Weather
and time depending, this weekend I may try to make a quick motorcycle
or ATV trip up to get some preliminary notes and data.
There
will be more to this thread as information becomes available. This

can get these batteries for 50$ off retail:

Thank you Scott! And, yes, we need to keep a clear Part 97.221(b) for any individual or agency needing to use Winlink for EmComm on our US Ham bands.?
Specifically:?
28.120-28.189 MHz,?
24.925-24.930 MHz,?
21.090-21.100 MHz,?
18.105-18.110 MHz,?
14.0950-14.0995 MHz, 14.1005-14.112 MHz,?
10.140-10.150 MHz,?
7.100-7.105 MHz,?
3.585-3.600 MHz.
Considering that our occupied bandwidth for protocols used is between 2.3KHz and 2.75 KHz, and that we share these segments with others, we don¡¯t have much wriggle room!
Lastly, a US end-user may also use RMS gateways from other countries that will appear outside these segments since they are present as a control operator (not under automatic control). This would include the RMS gateways in Canada, Mexico, ITU sponsored gateways in Central America and the Caribbean.?FYI, Steve, k4cjx

Incoming Hurricane Milton 10/8/2024
For those of us using winlink, and learning how to apply it during an emergency, the .io [winlink-programs-group] posted today 10/8/2024 the following conversation.
?
Please postpone regular Winlink Nets and testing during hurricane response!
The WDT is requesting that all non-essential Winlink traffic (weekly nets, testing, etc.) be postponed until after hurricane Milton has moved on and response efforts have turned to recovery. There is still a lot of traffic in the aftermath of Helene, and we expect Milton will add significantly to that. We need to keep the gateways clear for that traffic. Thank you! Scott, NS7C
Would that include Telnet??Mike Gormley WA8VEC?Sebring, FL
No.? ?The idea is to keep the HF spectrum freed up for disaster use.?Tom N5TW
Wasn't sure you were also concerned about the CMS's. Mike Gormley? WA8VEC?Sebring, FL

The $1200 would actually be $1400 per system. The people I work with on the Bridger site with the Forest Service are indicating to me that it¡¯s unlikely it will never happen. Right now ERA only puts out for 1/2 of the rent on Bridger for use of that site. Because of the way the association up there is Designed, there¡¯s no way to get that site for free. Fortunately 1/2 is not undoable for the association as long as people contribute every year.? Neil Neil Ramhorst KL7JGS
