This is info from N4MB, Mickey Baker, ARRL SE Director. Proposal for rule change DXCC to close out minute by minute propagation shopping. If you have comments contact Mickey. He is originally from Rome GA. All, One of the things I've been working on as a member of the ARRL Programs and Services Committee is the change to DXCC Rule I-9 that restricts counting DXCC contacts. This rule has been passed by the ARRL Programs and Services Committee and has been tasked back to the DX advisory committee. This should ELIMINATE almost ALL of the propagation shopping issues. Basically, it limits remote operation to three situations... A DXCC applicant may apply for remote dxcc credit where they: - use remote stations within 200km of their own station and their own primary station from anywhere. - use a station wherever they are location - use a SINGLE SPECIFIED REMOTE STATION any time. THis single station can only change once per sequential year. I wrote this after taking THIS GROUP's requests and floating it to see what I could pass. I started with a hard limit of a 200km circle - which people objected to who have remote personal stations. Many amateurs are "snowbirds" - "up north" in the summer and "down south" in the winter, and build out stations at vacation homes that they want to use remotely. This is to prevent "propagation shopping" which I and a number of other directors want to stop. This has been passed out of the Programs and Services Committee and tasked to the DX Advisory Committee. This will be the third time that they have examined this issue, but the first time a rule change has been promoted. I've attached the motion to change the rules, which I would like to get in front of the full board in January. If you live outside the Southeastern Division and support this, please contact your DX Advisory Committee member and your Division Director. We will get this changed! Thanks for your support. 73, Mickey Baker, N4MB ARRL DIrector, Southeastern Division Palm Beach Gardens, FL "Tell me, and I will listen. Show me, and I will understand. Involve me, and I will learn." This, a result of the disparity of the DXCC Rules as they relate to Disparate Propagational advantage due to the no-continental limits unwisely accepted by the committee. Perhaps that one Time big Ad $$$$ influenced that decision. That revenue source obviously did not pan out for them. I'd say ARRL may want to take a re-look at where their revenue streams originate." Lightning 2
It is rare that we have such a lightning storm, especially with little rain associated with it. I believe it is called desert. lightning. We lost only the POE injector for our 5gHZ link and I had a spare. Remote back up at 5am Tuesday. Yawn.

VERY,VERY fast mover 3
I was at the grocery store when this MAJOR LIGHTNING event came and went. Too late for me to get home and shutdown the remote. But, after a remote reset we seem to be OK, other than the QRN. We were lucky this time.

CORRECTION 2
PLEASE LET ME CORRECT THE TYPOS AT THE END OF MY LENGTHY MESSAGE I MENTIONED TO YOU THAT AS A GROUP YOU HAVE DECISIONS TO MAKE I don't think we should gamble with a manual relay to control antenna. Someone is guaranteed to forget to switch antennas Do we pay Elecraft the $125+ shipping or do we BUY a competitors unit for $200. YOU DECDE ON WHICH WAY TO GO AND HOW WE ARE GOING TO PAY FOR IT and if you can contribute Which unit do we buy and which of you is going to help pay for it. The remote is back on line without 80 meters RSVP RSVP RSVP _._,_._,_

I have cooled down 4
No question that I was upset with the Elecraft treatment of our KRC-2 problem. There were, however, other things going on: 1. In an effort to cure our port forwarding problems with the new ISP, we totally screwed up our network which took calling on the ISP owner to fix after several days. 2. We had a couple of desert lightning storms come through causing minimal damage but a lot of concern and trouble shooting. 3. The fact that we had screwed up the internet meant a. a lot of downtime for the remote b. my wife could not do online research for her latest book. c. my daughter could not do online gaming d. I could not watch the latest Trump screw ups 4. My cell phone with a ton of data on it died. 5. We are arranging to take my daughter to Mayo Clinic for treatment The list goes on. But, after sleeping on it, I have authorized Elecraft to charge my credit card and return the repaired KRC-2. Again, I will not turn this into an Elecraft bashing contest, I think too much of them and their products.

KRC-2 Repair Fund
Thank you. We have raised more than enough to pay the $145 to Elecraft for repair and return shipment of our KRC-2. I should receive the unit back Wednesday and I'll put it on line. The fund drive is complete with enough left over for coffee or a beer.
