QUICK report on recent Check

FYI

Power to amp is OFF
Cleaned up the display to remove Memories 1,2,3,4
Added button for Pre(amp)
Power setting cannot be set until amp is on line
Odd ball USB for Com 8 -- NOT FTDI - some sort of Microchip - ditch it and plug in an actual FTDI cable.

Will check back later and report -- Don N4HH

Don,

After you did your "magic" Saturday afternoon the following anomalies and conditions were experienced after what appeared to be
stable operating conditions for several hours.?

1)? The pre-amp switch was automatically turned on when using 10, 12, 15, and 17M, but turned off on 20M.
? ? ? Perhaps this is expected to happen.

2)? On multiple attempts, after several seconds of TXing on 10M, automatic disconnection from server occurred.
? ? ? SWR was 1.1 to 1 each time.

3)? During the attempts to TX on 10M, amp only put out 140 watts.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the report - it's really helpful in trying to trouble shoot and keep the remote running reliability and consistently which is the end purpose so it works easily for all.

1.? Preamp:? There are actually two (2) levels of pre amp built into the K3 software.? The firest level is what you get when you cycle the PRE button - it goes from OFF to ON and then back to OFF.? It's what most folks expect to happen.

However:? I've programmed the PF1 button to engage a 2nd level of amplification - BUT - this only works on 12, 10 and 6 meters.? If you cycle the PF1 button on either of these bands, it works as:? OFF => ON (preamp 1) => ON (preamp 2) => and back to OFF.? Unless you are using a K3 Mini or a K3 in terminal mode you won't see any indication of the 2nd preamp but you will hear it.? I usually leaave the 2nd preamp engaged on these bands - sometimes someone operates the regular PRE button and effectively turns the nd preamp OFF.

I usually advise op's to download and actually read the K3/s operating manual for more information.

2.? What MODE were you using when this happened?? And - using the amp on OPER or on STBY.

Ten meters has been problematic for us for quite a while.? In spite of throwing hundreds of dollars at the coax/control lines in terms of snap on ferrite beads, RFI is intermittent.? Not sure why - could be the wind blows a few cables in the "right" direction or something else.? We really need to apply best practices for RFI reduction to the remote as a whole - I'm not sure we are taking a systematic approach to best engineering but we are trying.? I'll check the power settings on 10 to see what they are.? Generally, I have decreased the drive levels to the point that it is stable.

3.? I'll get on shortly and check the drive levels,

Thanks again for your reports - they are very much appreciated and helpful -- catch up later -- Don N4HH
