Verticals Problem

I am not sure what the problem is - - might just be a reset - - the verticals will not tune.? Until I can fix it 20-6 meters only please.

Reference above. In the interest of coming up with more ideas, need to know exactly what it costs (soup to nuts) to maintain the remote station yearly, including repairs, insurance, electricity, parts, etc since inception?? Knowing that makes it easier to consider some options i have in mind.. For your consideration

I'd like to thank those of you who helped with the monthly expenses?AND, clarify a couple of things.
First, the W7DXX remote base is a one-man operation.? I have no sponsors - no advertisers.? All expenses are paid by me.
I operate the station on a shoestring budget.
What support I do have comes from your yearly dues.? I structured the dues a few years ago. I set the dues amount at a figure I felt
? would meet expenses. I have not increased dues for many years. Nor, do I expect to.
Clearly, we need a fund to cover growth, equipment upgrades, and repairs, as with our current amp failure. Thank goodness the amp repair is a warranty item and all I'm out is Fedex shipping costs.
I have the equipment insured for most kinds of failure.? The insurance premium is a reasonable $300 per year.? Renewable April 1, 2020.
I have gotten support from some ham radio manufacturers and dealers for the sole purpose of providing prizes to our contest winners. As an example, I have close to $1,000 worth of prizes to award with our upcoming contest.
B
ack to the main point. Years ago I determined the dues amount based on the assumption that membership would grow by a reasonable amount each year.?
Probably because of propagation issues, our membership numbers are not growing.
I have a quarter page ad in CQ Magazine aimed at attracting new members.? This ad is due out next month.? I've invested, along with SteppIR, in a 40 meter phased array that is working well. STILL, I cannot seem to attract new members.
I do not want to beg each month for financial help.? Help that always comes from the same few of you anyway.
I do very much enjoy providing the remote base for you. It is my sole ham radio interest.
I WOULD ASK EVERYONE OF YOU?to come up with ideas on how we can save W7DXX REMOTE.
February 18 2020
?Keith,
? To reach?out for new members is a tough sell. The ARRL is having identical problems and the overall annual growth of the U.S Amateur Radio Service is a thin 1%. Amateur clubs, especially repeater clubs, are seeing double digit losses.? The ad in CQ is good, perhaps QST is better since it has more readers, well over 100,000 provided they accept such ads.

One idea is to prepare a brief letter?or advertisement (perhaps the CQ ad) about the remote station and operations highlighting the features coupled with some words about the overall benefits. I don't know how many members belong to the W7DXX remote but send each one the letter and ask them to send it to their local clubs, ham friends etc. Using the membership in that way multiplies the number of recipients two fold. In my case I have access to over 30 local clubs located here in the Washington DC metropolitan area (Maryland, Northern Virginia etc.) Sending it the club Secretary or the President asking them to post it on their websites? or their periodic membership email bulletins should reach a large audience..."No guarantee but nothing beats failure like a try".

... Here to assist as necessary.

Hi John, my error, the peak tended to be at 30 degrees. Don't know where the 318 came from.. Too much prune juice here.?

I do not understand NE at 318 degrees¡.FY7 is 129 degrees from Chicago.? So it should be a little south of east from NM.,? ?But anyway I played with it listening to my home station and it is not far off ¡It should peak at 60 deg and seemed to peak about 40 degrees. The nulls off the ends also seemed about 25 degrees off¡.. Not a big deal, and who know what propagation is doing.?

Query: This morning I was on 20M working a station in French Guiana, (FY7HB) which is off the NE corner of south america. However his signal peaked in a NE direction (318 degrees) instead of South from New Mexico
Am I pointing the rotor/yagi? correctly from New Mexico? Maybe I am confused since I am use to pointing yagis from my ex station in Maryland nr DC? I don't believe it was propagation causing an anomaly of direction.? Tnx

My rohn 25G 70 foot tower and th-7 yagi and dipoles all coming down this Saturday. Sold all of my equip over QRZ.COM which has a tremendous following better than ebay and no charges hi? You can see the station on qrz.com. Will be changing that soon. Again thanks.

Remote Spares

I have been gathering equipment so that we have spare "everythings."
I have
A spare computer
spare antennas
spare power supply

What I don't have is

A spare transceiver
Amplifier
and misc.

If you have any of these surplus to your needs.? A loan or gift would keep us on the air in the event of a failure.
Check your garage.? What can you lend (I'll insure it) or donate. (I'll give you a tax receipt)

VP8PJ DX-pedition

Ok, let me know. I pay the fee and extra donation too. Thank you for the opportunity and your hard work. Btw, in my own opinion it is ?not better to have hundreds of members/users, better to have a hard core of members. But I can understand your side that you need a maximum of paying users for your hard work. I love your remote from the first day of.?

Doug,

The guys on the remote are very anxious to work a new upcoming DX-pedition. IS IT POSSIBLE FOR YOUR PEOPLE TO GET? STARTED ON MY AMP if we pay an added service fee.

Re: NEGATIVE PROGRESS TODAY

Better luck on your next trip to the site! :)
Thanks for your effort!!!

NEGATIVE PROGRESS TODAY

It is one of those days when I should have stayed in bed.
The purpose of the trip today was to add 80 and 60 meters.? Simple enough??? WRONG.
Until I go back up after some sleep I should be able to do it.
BUT, RIGHT NOW, all you have is 40 meters.
Sorry, sometimes poop happens.

Good thinking there! I for one have not had very good success navigating the Remote Hams site. Or, maybe it's just me not being very tech savvy.? You bring up a great point; Remote Hams already has the "juice" as it were. So is there a way to capitalize on that? Can you write articles there??

What about users writing reviews of their experiences with the remote?

Some thoughts:

I think persons looking for internet remote stations will find RemoteHams very quick.
And once they do, they will also find W7DXX very quick. So, they are basically a W7DXX advertiser.

So, I'm thinking...

?- Add info about the stations equipment on the RCForb library page. It will catch the eye of people looking for stations.
?- Add info about the the station's equipment and membership dues on the RCForb login welcome page.
?- Add info about the station's equipment operation on the RCForb chat window. (Maybe the dues too).
?- Consider a discounted dues of $150.00 for a limited time only. Maybe 30 days?

I'll keep thinking!

Re: Important, please read

I would also put a link to the W7DXX website in both the RCForb welcome window and the chat window.
