Without drawing a block diagram, here is the simplified "plan" - keeping it simple should result in greater reliability and consistency - but - while not likely, as everything in life, the "plan" is subject to change.? It currently involves two (2) phases:

Phase 1:? Log => Coax => K3 <=> Computer <=> Internet

100 watts on all bands and modes on 20 through and including 6 meters.

Next - when the KPA1500 is returned from Elecraft - No, we don't have a return date yet but, based on Elecraft reflector reports, we can expect it to take many weeks.

Phase 2:? Log => Coax => Antenna #1 on the KPA1500 <=> K3 <=> Computer <=> Internet

AND:

40 Meter Verts => Coax => DX Eng DVA40 => Directional Switch Control (Probably the Denkovi) => Coax =>Antenna #2 on the KPA1500 <=> K3 <=> Computer <=> Internet

NO provision for 80 and/or 30 would be provided at this time.

1500 watts on CW and SSB on 40, and 20 through and including 6 meters.? See comments re: provisions for FT8.

Comments:

The new ISP provider gives us download speeds that are in the range of 10X what we have had.? This "should" result in somewhat shorter delay times and fewer momentary drops.? This is a move in the right direction.?

By keeping the topology simple, there would NOT be a need for any external "band decoder(s)" to be used as the KPA1500 would follow the band information provided by the K3 and internally select either Ant#1 port or Ant#2 port.? The use of "external" band decoders has been problematic.? With this plan, the KPA1500 would become the "band decoder."? Simple, internal and reliable!

Yes, we have had mysterious problems setting and switching appropriate drive levels for FT8 users.? The plan is to continue to attempt to internally switch the K3 drive levels with Amp OP/BYP buttons as shown on the RCForb amp control panel.? Just as we have been doing - but - please keep in mind that we "might" still have these problems and will continue to work on a reliable solution.

After this configuration has been tested and used for some period of time, some consideration "may" be given to adding 80 and 30 meter capability.? However this is eventually accomplished, it will have to be simple and reliable.

This has been a very frustrating journey for everyone - let's hope this simplicity gives us a consistent reliable remote.

First - the KPA1500 has been shipped to Elecraft for repair.? There is NO estimate on when this will be completed.? I can tell you from my recent experience that it will likely be a month or perhaps more.

Second - here is what happened with the internet.? We use a 5gig link between "home" and the remote site.? Aiming the antennas is touchy but relatively simple and that has not been a? problem.? The problem is the growth of vegetation.? When the up-link was physically located at Keith's home, all was well until mother nature allowed vegetation to grow and get in the path of the link - NO, I don't know just when that occurred.? Subsequently, the 5gig up-link was moved to Charles's home where it worked well until mother nature took over again!?

Now - instead of continuing to try to defeat mother nature, Keith is arranging with another provide whose 5gig link is right at the airport - easy line of site - no potential obstructions.? This should increase reliability as well as provide shorter delay times.

The timeline for the 5gig connection to be set is about a week plus - so - anticipate that the remote will be down for at least another week while this is completed.? Once completed, we should be in great shape.

Initially, the configuration will be Log => Coax => K3??? This will provide 100 watts on all modes to all bands 20-6 meters.? 40 meters will not be available until the KPA1500 is returned and the 40 meter array is connected to the KPA1500 second antenna port.

Re: Addendum - [W7DXXREMOTE] Totally Off Topic - but - FYI

Thanks for all the public and private responses to my original post - in a way, it's nice (but not really nice) to know I was not the only one that had that type of reaction.

It's the vaccination gift that keeps giving - last night I had extreme insomnia and when I finally did get to sleep, woke up an hour later with a "night sweat" - and - that happened again after a nap later in the day - otherwise, a pretty good "normal" day - hoping to actually get a good night's sleep tonight - gadzooks - the upside is that I'm "boosted" and I'll take that:)

Hi All

This post relates to my experience with the 3rd COVID (Booster) shot. Please feel free to stop reading and return to your normal broadcasting;)

Yesterday (Tuesday Sept 7) I received my 3rd shot of the Moderna Vaccine at about 10 am.? Yes, being in the "vulnerable"? group, this was right on schedule.

The Moderna shot was administered at a large CVS on Peachtree St here in Atlanta and it went very smoothly.? My two previous shots were also of the Moderna vaccine and also went without a hitch - a little "latent" soreness at the injection site but no following reaction or symptoms - a "walk in the park."

Not this time!? Most of the day was uneventful. I'm thinking it's another walk in the park - but around 8pm I started to crash.? I don't know how to describe the reaction(s) but it "kicked my ass" big time - I can't remember ever being this sick - and throughout the night I experienced some of the following: all pretty much at the same time - or at least what I can remember :(

-? Severe headache - behind my eyes, temples, down the back of the neck and into the shoulders

-? Severe? muscle and joint pain and aches all over my body.

-? Severe chills and shivering.

-? The feeling of being "hot"? but without an abnormal temperature - mine usually runs about 97.6 and that is what I measured.

-? Totally "stuffed up" with some breathing difficulty - like you had a really bad cold that included your lungs.

-? Bloating or "fullness" in the stomach but no nauseousness.

-? Dizziness to the point of not being able to get out of bed or walk without hanging on to something - extreme "unbalance" and some "spaciness."

-? An elevated pounding heart-rate - running over 110 bpm all night and sometimes spiking at 125 bpm - - today, at about 8pm - after slowly declining all day - this has pretty much returned to normal which for me is about 60 bpm +- when resting.

I actually went to sleep at about 8 am this morning? and finally got out of bed around 4:30 pm.? At? 4:30 I was feeling much better - almost all the symptoms were gone except for a mild lingering headache which I still have.? I can tell you that if what I experienced is even somewhat what it is like to actually have a real case of COVID,? it is totally unbelievably devastating - you really don't want to get this!

It's now almost 9 pm and I'm pretty much back to my normal self :))

TAKEAWAY

Remember - I got the Moderna shot(s) and everyone will have different physical reactions regardless of the vaccine provider.

BUT - if, or rather when, you are going to get the "booster" shot be sure to schedule it when you have nothing pressing or even on the calendar for the next day or two - just in case you have a reaction like I did - and I sincerely hope you do not!

Thanks for the summary Don.? My XYL had the similar symptoms after her 2nd Moderna shot.? I had no effects after taking the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.? Of course our 15 year old son had no symptoms after 2 Pfizer shots.

Re: Totally Off Topic - but - FYI

Your side effects are somewhat extreme but you're covered. Moderna is like a nuclear power?mRNA vaccine?over Pfizer.

I have read that Moderna decided on a much more potent dose than Pfizer.? Not sure why, it was a technical decision.? In any case Don you should now be really safe...They say that the 3rd shot gives the ultimate in protection.? As a scientist, I am glad to see that you have been fully vaccinated but sorry for the side effects...And yes if you had actually contracted COVID it would have been worse.

Don,

The immunization is working as it is supposed to. I had a similar experience after the second Moderna. I have to wait for the third for another 10 days or so, though I am the caretaker of someone who is severely medically immunocompromised. She got Moderna #3 two days ago with no reaction, at this time.

Should you have any other reactions, please contact your health care provider.

BUT - if, or rather when, you are going to get the "booster" shot be sure to schedule it when you have nothing pressing or even on the calendar for the next day or two - just in case you have a reaction like I did - and I sincerely hope you do not!
