Hello Everyone, We had a successful exercise this week. Thanks to Ken and Chris for accepting check-ins for the net. Here is the roster so far: P2P Check-ins to KU0HN Shawn, KD9KGQ, Holmen, La Crosse County, WI, USA, VHF Packet (I Am Safe Message, P2P) Chris, KD9CZM, Holmen, La Crosse County, WI, USA, Packet 2m (P2P) Dan , KE0UQU,Winona ,Winona County, MN Vara HF via KU0HN (P2P) Ken, W9GM, La Crosse, La Crosse, WI, USA, Packet, 2M (P2P) P2P Check-ins to W9GM: Chris, KD9CZM, Holmen, La Crosse County, WI, USA, Packet 2m Ben, KU0HN, Lewiston, Winona, MN, VHF Packet P2P Check-ins to W0NE: N4RJB, RICHARD, PUNTA GORDA, CHARLOTTE, FL, TELNET Bruce; KC9LLI; Elroy; Juneau; Wi.; USA K4RHK, Tim, Routine/ Emergency Broadcast System - Columbia, SC #Winlink exercise Chris, if you would kindly reply with any check-ins you received we can complete the roster. Ken already forwarded his. In addition, I encountered two new (to me) forms this week. Shawn sent an "I Am Safe Message" and Tim sent an Emergency Broadcast System message. My homework is to see what that one is for. Another tip I learned this week is that Winlink Express is only able to accept P2P messages using one modem at a time, but PAT is able to use any or all of your configured modems at the same time. 73, Ben - KU0HN

Hello Everyone, Tomorrow is our weekly Winlink net. This week's activity will be checking in via P2P if you are able. If you are not, check in as usual. Make sure your message type is set to P2P Winlink when you compose it. Check in with either the standard check-in form or with the standard 1-line check-in format. Make sure the message is addressed directly to the station you are connecting to (so not W0NE). So far we have 2 stations accepting P2P Check-ins: KU0HN on VHF packet on 145.670 KU0HN on VARA-FM on 145.670 KU0HN on VARA HF, (40 meters) dial frequency 7.1013 MHz W9GM on VHF Packet on 145.030 Both W9GM and KU0HN are also available by digipeating via W0NE-7 (VHF Packet only) if you don't have a direct connection. If anyone else wants to accept P2P messages, please reply to this notice. Anyone who accepts messages gets extra amateur radio points. 73, Ben - KU0HN

Hello Everyone, Today is our weekly Winlink net. This week's exercise is to check in with the check-in form using a mode you don't normally use. For example, if you normally use VARA HF, try ARDOP. If you are only set up for one mode, consider trying a different gateway. 73, Ben - KU0HN

Cold, clear and calm here in the capitol city of SC.. ops normal Ben, KU0HN, Lewiston, Winona, MN, VARA-FM via KU0HN-10 Shawn, KD9KGQ, Holmen, La Crosse County, WI, USA, VARA FM (Nice Tuner) I had a fun little NCO oopsie this week too, with a lesson learned. I was daydreaming about the .308 on Chris's raffle ticket, then got called away from my computer. When I came back I closed the image and deleted the message, but forgot to save the image. Winlink Message Viewer came to the rescue. If you weren't aware of this feature (or bug if you don't want people reading your messages) check out https://www.winlink.org/content/us_amateur_radio_message_viewer. I was able to log in, find Chris's picture, and download it from there. 73 and have a great week everyone. Good luck to anyone participating in Winter Field Day tomorrow. Ben - KU0HN

W0NE Winlink Net Reminder - 1-23-2025
Hello Everyone, I hope everyone was able to stay warm this past weekend. Tomorrow is our weekly net. The exercise this week will be to send an image attachment. Send the message to W0NE@... with the typical check-in text, then attach an image of your choice. Probably the biggest challenge with this exercise will be to reduce the size of the image to something that can be reasonably sent over the air. The Winlink system caps attachment size at 120kb which can be a bit small when dealing with Images. If you happen to be on Windows and using Winlink Express, there is a built-in image editor that can help cut the size down. There is a video tutorial available here: https://winlink.org/content/winlink_express_picture_editor_video_how_to If you are on another platform, there are lots of tools around to do this. I tend to favor Gimp or Imagemagik on Linux. Usually I crop zealously, then reduce the color space and resolution until I am happy with the image and it is less than 120k. For Windows users I have heard of people using Cesium to resize images as well, but that's not something I have done personally. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's check-ins tomorrow. 73, Ben - KU0HN
