Hello Everyone, It's time again for our weekly Winlink net. I want to recycle another exercise from about a year ago and do check-ins this week using APRSLink. I found the exercise frustrating last time, but it did give me a bit of a perspective shift in the utility of the APRS network for things other than location tracking. The instructions for using APRSlink are on the Winlink site here: https://winlink.org/APRSLink. The login process is similar to using Winlink over packet without a client. For the check-in message, just one line with the standard check-in is sufficient. Keeping messages short is recommended. If you have more than one radio or client, feel free to send multiple check-ins. You can note which set-up you are using in the check-in. If you don't have APRS set up, feel free to check in by whatever other means you like. 73, Ben - KU0HN

Happy Wednesday everyone, Tomorrow is our weekly net. We had what I thought was a successful exercise last week. Let's take it easy this week and just do a normal check-in in your preferred format. If you normally use VHF, maybe try HF this week, or if you normally use HF, try VHF if possible. 73, Ben - KU0HN

W0NE Winlink Net Reminder - 10-31-2024
Good Morning All, Tomorrow is our weekly Winlink net. I am going to recycle an exercise from this time last year because I think it's good practice. This week's exercise will be to send a message--use the standard check-in--using packet Winlink, but rather than connecting directly, connect via a digipeater or using a connect script to go through one or more packet nodes. This is useful if you are in a location with no local gateway, or if the internet connection is down at your local gateway. A suggested path for those in Winona or La Crosse might be to connect to W9GM-10 via W0NE-7 on 145.030 or KU0HN-10 via W0NE-7 on 145.670. In Rochester, you could connect to W0NE-10 via MNROC2 on 145.670. To use a digipeater in Winlink Express, simple fill in the gateway you want to connect to and put the digipeater's SSID in the box after "Via." In PAT, you need to type "/" or leave a space in between the target digipeater and the gateway. For example, "W0NE-7/W9GM-10" or "W0NE-7 W9GM-10" is the connection string to use the W9GM-10 gateway with W0NE-7 digipeating. Connect scripts only work in Winlink Express at this time, but they are a bit more powerful. To connect to W0NE-10 through MNROC2, set the connection type to Script and use the following script: C MNROC2 CONN !WAITFOR ? C W0NE-10 LINK More information on digipeaters and scripts can be found here: https://www.qsl.net/w4eat/w4eat/Making_a_packet_connection_to_a_.htm 73, Ben - KU0HN

Tomorrow is our weekly Winlink net. As promised, let's do a position report this week. For Winlink Express instructions, I will refer you to the Emcomm-training.org's instructions since they are better than what I could come up with. They can be found here: https://emcomm-training.org/WT%20for%2010-28-2021_%20Winlink%20Position%20Reports%20sent%20to%20APRS%20map%20web%20sites%20(1).pdf Please note the check-in should be sent to W0NE where the instructions reference "Your local clearinghouse." If you are using PAT, Click Action -> Position and complete the form. This will generate the message and post it to the outbox. From there you can copy/paste the contents to a new message addressed to W0NE. You can either send or discard the message to QTH in the outbox. I will put a map together and send the link out with the report on Friday or Saturday. Since there is still emergency traffic in the aftermath of the hurricane, let's stick to local VHF or Telnet this week and leave the HF gateways available for more important messages. 73, Ben - KU0HN
