W0NE Winlink Net Reminder 4-18-24
Hello Everyone, Tomorrow is our weekly Winlink net. I don't think we have ever done a position report exercise before, so let's do that this week. For Winlink Express instructions, I will refer you to the Emcomm-training.org's instructions since they are better than what I could come up with. They can be found here: https://emcomm-training.org/WT%20for%2010-28-2021_%20Winlink%20Position%20Reports%20sent%20to%20APRS%20map%20web%20sites%20(1).pdf Please note the check-in should be sent to W0NE where the instructions reference "Your local clearinghouse." If you are using PAT, Click Action -> Position and complete the form. This will generate the message and post it to the outbox. From there you can copy/paste the contents to a new message addressed to W0NE. You can either send or discard the message to QTH in the outbox. 73, Ben - KU0HN

W0NE Winlink Net Reminder
Sorry for the late reminder everyone. I ended up working pretty late last night. For today's net, let's just do a standard check-in, either using the check-in form or with the check-in message in the body. My station is online for P2P (connect and send to KU0HN rather than W0NE if doing P2P) if anyone wants to connect that way. It can be accessed digipeating through w0ne-7 or mnroc2 on 145.670. 73, Ben - KU0HN

W0NE Winlink Net Reminder 4-4-2024
Hi Everyone, The net is back this week, although with the weather today I wish I would have stayed in Arizona for a few more days. Since we are back in winter this week, let's do a weather report for our check-in. Since we haven't done instructions on forms in a little while, and we have had some new folks since then, I'll post some brief instructions below. Feel free to ask if you have questions. Winlink Express: 1. Compose a new message like normal. From the top of the compose window, click "Select Template." 2. Browse to Weather Forms and choose "Local Weather Report." PAT: 1. Click Action -> Compose. 2. Click the "Templates" button. 3. Browse to Weather Forms and choose "Local Weather Report." When the form opens, check the "This is an exercise" box and fill the form to the best of your ability. In the "Notes (Optional)" field, fill out the normal check-in data. 73, Ben - KU0HN

Hello Everyone, Sorry, I'm a bit late with my reminder again this week. For this week's exercise, let's try P2P check-ins again. I have my system listening for incoming packet connections on 145.670. It should be available via the W0NE-7 digipeater from the La Crosse/Winona areas, and via the MNROC2 digipeater in Rochester. If p2p isn't going to work for whatever reason, feel free to send a regular check-in. If you have technical issues with P2P, shoot me a message since I'm working from home today. 73, Ben - KU0HN

Hello Everyone, Tomorrow is our weekly Winlink net. It's been a little bit since we have done an ICS-213 form, so that can be our activity for the week. If you can't send forms for whatever reason you can always send a plain one-line check-in in the following format: Subject: Winlink Net Check-In Email Body: Name, Callsign, City, County, State, Country, Mode (and Gateway if applicable) Since we have some newcomers, if you aren't sure how to send a form, just reply to this email and I can send instructions. 73, Ben - KU0HN

Hi everyone, Tomorrow is our weekly Winlink net. Let's keep things simple this week and do a standard check-in. You can do a simple 1 line message or the check-in form. I have P2P running (connect to KU0HN on 145.670 packet) for anyone who wants to send that way but it is by no means required. 73, Ben - KU0HN

W0NE Winlink Net Roster - Week 21

Happy Friday everyone, After attempting this week's exercise on my Kenwood HT, I can say that my fingers got a good exercise as well. Based on some of the comments I wasn't the only person who struggled a little this week. Here is the roster: W2ILT, MARTIN, LAUREL SPRINGS, CAMDEN, NJ, VHF Packet W2ILT, MARTIN, LAUREL SPRINGS, CAMDEN, NJ, APRS (via aprsemail2@...) KD9POL, Rodney, Viola, Richland, WI, Telnet ben ku0hn lewiston mn usa thd7 (via APRSLink) Ben, KU0HN, Lewiston, MN, USA, APRSDroid KD9KGQ, checking in via PinPoint APRS (via aprsemail2@...) Ken, W9GM, La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI, USA, VARA (noted that this was a backup check-in in case the APRS check-in didn't work) KF9CP, Paul, Farmington, Dakota, MN (HF VARA) I believe this is Rodney's first check-in so welcome to the net. I'll share some of my struggles here and anyone who wants to chime in on what did or did not work for them, please do. My first check-in was from my TH-D7 HT. My goal was to check-in using the native APRS on the HT with no additional hardware. After figuring out that I had never actually configured APRS on the radio before (it doesn't have built-in GPS so not a priority) I finally got my callsign and path correct. I discovered that I had to use my base callsign with no SSID in order for Winlink to log me in with APRSLink. I then immediately suffered a PTSD attack from texting people on cell phones from 20 years ago. I didn't like it then and it turns out I still hate inputting text with a numeric keypad. My second check-in was using APRSDroid on my phone and a different HT and a Mobilinkd. I also had an old Motorola commercial HT amp that I re-tuned for 2 meters in line. I figured I'd test checking in and the amp's data capabilities at the same time. That turned out to be a dumb idea since the amp is pretty slow with it's turn-around time and my APRS messages failed due to never getting the acks. After getting a 2 hour ban from APRSLink (oops) I took the amp out of line and was able to check in. It sure was easier to type on the phone, but with that setup I may as well have just used WoAD. I see everyone else who did APRS check-ins used EMAIL2. I suspect that didn't have as much back and forth logging in, etc... To give this NCO a break, I think we will do a standard check-in next week. 73, Ben - KU0HN

W0NE Winlink net reminder - Week 21
Hello everyone, For this week's net, let's test out APRSlink which uses the APRS network to send and receive short Winlink messages. Since everyone probably has a different model radio or client, I will have to ask you to get out the manual if you aren't sure how to send an APRS message using your radio or software. The instructions for using APRSlink are on the Winlink site here: https://winlink.org/APRSLink. The login process is similar to the clientless activity. For the check-in message, just one line with the standard check-in is sufficient. Keeping messages short is recommended. If you have more than one radio or client, feel free to send multiple check-ins. You can note which set-up you are using in the check-in. If you don't have APRS set up, feel free to check in by whatever other means you like. 73, Ben - KU0HN

W0NE Winlink Roster - Week 20
Hello Everyone, We had 7 check-ins this week. Here is the roster: W2ILT, Martin, Laurel Springs, Camden, NJ, VHF Packet Ken, W9GM, La Crosse, La Crosse, WI, USA, VARA HF Chris, KD9CZM, Holmen, La Crosse, WI, USA, Mark, K0GMK, Rochester, Olmsted, MN, USA, HF KF9CP, Paul, Farmington, Dakota, MN (HF packet via KU0HN-10) Ben, KU0HN, Lewiston, Winona, MN, VARA-FM via KU0HN-10 Shawn, KD9KGQ, Holmen, La Crosse County, WI, USA, VARA HF Next week I think we should give try something a little different and check-in using APRS instead of Winlink. I'll have to think about how to do instructions for that one since everyone's setup will be a little different. 73, Ben - KU0HN
