30 miles north of the Cape and we can hop in the Cessna and take a tour of
the space center by air. It is very cool to look down on the rockets. You
can check out my walk in vac chamber and let me know all the stuff I have
done wrong :_)))))))



Do you have a launch pass or are you just gona watch it from the causeway
??? I usually don't stay on base for the launches anymore but can try to
get a pass for a visitor if you want me to. A shuttle launch from 3.5 miles
away is a serious experience. We take southern hospitality seriously
around these parts so let me know if you need anything while you are here.

for the Modified XMS Controllers. I posted a .JPG of the schematic
for the oscillator in my Files folder for the Group if anyone else is
interested. I will make a drawing of the modifications that I made to
the XMS Controllers later.

Thomas... I will need to send you the details of the modification and
the parts for your controller. I think we left it modified
differently and I want to make sure that both (all) end up the same
to make sure we only have one version of the modification in the
field. You should be able to make the changes there in Australia
yourself. Please describe the modifications I made to your unit as I
have lost the drawing I made. I think I put 2 Banana Jacks for the
external memory battery and a few more for the proposed oscillator
(+12 and -12 volts I think). The oscillator I designed uses only the
+12 volts and it is fed (as well as the output signal from the
oscillator) via the one BNC connector (a little bit of RF Magic).
I'll need you to verify your shipping address again. I know you have
been moving about a bit.

Drew... I'll be ready to ship your unit out as soon as I get a chance
to test it all together. Eager to hear how it works in a vacuum.

hummmmm....... I is very suspicious of that offer ??? I had a mate bring
me some veggimite from down under once........... I no longer talk to that
person. Nasty stuff that he told me was better than peanut butter. He
laughed his butt off while I tried to get that nasty taste out of my mouth.

How about you bring along some pics of your homeland so we can see how you
guys live upside down and all :_)))))))



The KSC tour is a tourist thing operated by Delaware North Inc. It is very
good and you should plan on 2 days to see it all. Lots of great history
space stuff. It has a thing called " VIP access " or something like that.
It is better than the normal tour and worth the price but I have never heard
of them offering passes to the launch. There are no public tours the day of
launch that I know of. There may be a private tour buss that takes you to
the causway launch viewing area ( 8 miles away ) otherwise you ( and 100,000
other people ) get to watch the shot from 7 to 12 miles away at best.



I am talking about VIP seating in the external tank barge turn basin. That
is 3.5 miles away from Pad A ( where that shuttle will launch from ). That
is limited to something like 250 passes. Them passes come from NASA and
let you on base the day of the launch. I will work on getting one of them.
It is good for me and three friends so if you are bringing the family they
can come too. Little baby people dont count as a full people.



You will so owe me. You will have to teach me everything you know about the
black art of glass working and mirror coating :_)))))))



We can fly around the edges of the space center a few days before the launch
or after it has gone. The airspace is locked the day of launch and the Air
Force is very serious about that.

One correction, it's STS-128 and now its on the 30th July, no biggy as I
will still have a couple of weeks up my sleeve at that point in the trip.
Now if you can swing a visitor's pass for it that would be the coolest thing
in the world!!!!* At present I'm planning to get a VIP pass via a tour
company (one has been recommended to me by a past visitor), but last I
checked (5days ago) tickets had yet to be released for this launch.



BTW if there is something you'd like from down unde, just let me know and
I'll see what I can do. H*II I'm already packing a didgeridoo for a friend
in OK!



And yes I'd love to see your "walk chamber"!

Gray Line Tours seems to be tied to the KSC Visitors Center. I am not sure
the tours run on launch day so you will want to ask that exact question.



I will ask for the turn basin pass and let you know if I can have it for
sure. If you cant get the gray tour dont panic, the view from Garden Street
in Titusville (out near the river) is very very good. Haul Over cannal is
about 8 miles north of the PAD A but as it is north of the center the view
is even better. Very few poeple know of that viewing site.



My back yard is 30 miles away so you dont see the first 5 seconds but I get
the best view if you want to follow it all the way to the horizon.

You can bring any camera you can carry.



We shall have an after launch party no matter the plans. I usually pull out
the little rockets and launch a few for the kids on the field so they can be
a part of the space program too. I am second generation space center worker
so kinda grew up on rocket launches.

The company I'm planning to get the tickets from is "Grey Line Tours" seems
Henrik (a Danish rocket nut I know) had a great time and all, so if you
can't swing a pass this is option two (5.8miles from the pad)..



I'll be travelling alone, so Ken might still get his "dream vacation"! Do
you know who they are about camera usage? I'm bringing two digital still
cameras (one compact, the other is a SLR).



Oh I always share what I know, after all what good is knowledge if you can't
use it to enlighten another person's life?



Yeah I figured they'd close the airspace, I mean who wants to have a multi
billion dollar rocket get taken out by a 100K buck recreational aircraft?
Besides I have a feeling that crashing hurts bad! <grin> Oh yeah, on that
note I'm rebuilding a Quicksilver XML ultra light at present and working on
my private pilots license, don't know if I'll have it finished (either of
them) by then, but I'm trying!

external memory battery and a few more for the proposed oscillator
(+12 and -12 volts I think). The oscillator I designed uses only the
+12 volts and it is fed (as well as the output signal from the
oscillator) via the one BNC connector (a little bit of RF Magic).
I'll need you to verify your shipping address again. I know you have
been moving about a bit.

Drew... I'll be ready to ship your unit out as soon as I get a chance
to test it all together. Eager to hear how it works in a vacuum.

Yes a Shuttle launch is very big.



It sets off car alarms for about 10 miles out so there will be lots of
honking and beeping about 30 seconds after you see the steam flash of the
water suppression system letting go. That is about 2,000,000 litters of
water in 10 seconds going to steam...... otherwise the launch pad would be a
smoking hole in the ground.



Will start working on the passes and the after launch party today :_))))))))

group ??? They are building home brew fusion reactors out of their vacuum
chambers. Is that wild or what.

Gray Line normally gets a bus load worth of tickets for each launch, to be
sure I will check with them to confirm that anyway.



If you can swing the basin pass that would really be (I don't know of a
strong enough suppurative) incredible for me, and I really wouldn't know how
to thank you properly! You know what's really funny? It's talking about
being 8 miles from an event and knowing that you're still incredibly close
to it! Under any other circumstances you'd be thinking why bother, you'll
never see anything from *that* far away!!!! It really brings home the shear
scale of a shuttle launch..



The great thing about digital photography is that you can share the pics
straight away, so if you have a TV we can drag out then I can link the
camera into it and we can do a slide show too!



On that note (rockets and all) I have an invite to attend a NEFAR launch so
once I have some more details you might be interested?



BTW if there are any other group members who would like to meet me or what
ever please drop me a line or two, I will be visiting about 9 states and
doing about 12K kilometres over this three month "vacation"...

Gray Line Tours seems to be tied to the KSC Visitors Center. I am not sure
the tours run on launch day so you will want to ask that exact question.



I will ask for the turn basin pass and let you know if I can have it for
sure. If you cant get the gray tour dont panic, the view from Garden Street
in Titusville (out near the river) is very very good. Haul Over cannal is
about 8 miles north of the PAD A but as it is north of the center the view
is even better. Very few poeple know of that viewing site.



My back yard is 30 miles away so you dont see the first 5 seconds but I get
the best view if you want to follow it all the way to the horizon.

You can bring any camera you can carry.



We shall have an after launch party no matter the plans. I usually pull out
the little rockets and launch a few for the kids on the field so they can be
a part of the space program too. I am second generation space center worker
so kinda grew up on rocket launches.

The company I'm planning to get the tickets from is "Grey Line Tours" seems
Henrik (a Danish rocket nut I know) had a great time and all, so if you
can't swing a pass this is option two (5.8miles from the pad)..



I'll be travelling alone, so Ken might still get his "dream vacation"! Do
you know who they are about camera usage? I'm bringing two digital still
cameras (one compact, the other is a SLR).



Oh I always share what I know, after all what good is knowledge if you can't
use it to enlighten another person's life?



Yeah I figured they'd close the airspace, I mean who wants to have a multi
billion dollar rocket get taken out by a 100K buck recreational aircraft?
Besides I have a feeling that crashing hurts bad! <grin> Oh yeah, on that
note I'm rebuilding a Quicksilver XML ultra light at present and working on
my private pilots license, don't know if I'll have it finished (either of
them) by then, but I'm trying!

hummmmm....... I is very suspicious of that offer ??? I had a mate bring
me some veggimite from down under once........... I no longer talk to that
person. Nasty stuff that he told me was better than peanut butter. He

The KSC tour is a tourist thing operated by Delaware North Inc. It is very
good and you should plan on 2 days to see it all. Lots of great history
space stuff. It has a thing called " VIP access " or something like that.
It is better than the normal tour and worth the price but I have never heard
of them offering passes to the launch. There are no public tours the day of
launch that I know of. There may be a private tour buss that takes you to
the causway launch viewing area ( 8 miles away ) otherwise you ( and 100,000
other people ) get to watch the shot from 7 to 12 miles away at best.



I am talking about VIP seating in the external tank barge turn basin. That
is 3.5 miles away from Pad A ( where that shuttle will launch from ). That
is limited to something like 250 passes. Them passes come from NASA and
let you on base the day of the launch. I will work on getting one of them.
It is good for me and three friends so if you are bringing the family they
can come too. Little baby people dont count as a full people.



You will so owe me. You will have to teach me everything you know about the
black art of glass working and mirror coating :_)))))))



We can fly around the edges of the space center a few days before the launch
or after it has gone. The airspace is locked the day of launch and the Air
Force is very serious about that.

One correction, it's STS-128 and now its on the 30th July, no biggy as I
will still have a couple of weeks up my sleeve at that point in the trip.
Now if you can swing a visitor's pass for it that would be the coolest thing
in the world!!!!* At present I'm planning to get a VIP pass via a tour
company (one has been recommended to me by a past visitor), but last I
checked (5days ago) tickets had yet to be released for this launch.



BTW if there is something you'd like from down unde, just let me know and
I'll see what I can do. H*II I'm already packing a didgeridoo for a friend
in OK!

You simply have to come by and visit my place when you are in Florida. I am
30 miles north of the Cape and we can hop in the Cessna and take a tour of
the space center by air. It is very cool to look down on the rockets. You
can check out my walk in vac chamber and let me know all the stuff I have
done wrong :_)))))))



Do you have a launch pass or are you just gona watch it from the causeway
??? I usually don't stay on base for the launches anymore but can try to
get a pass for a visitor if you want me to. A shuttle launch from 3.5 miles
away is a serious experience. We take southern hospitality seriously
around these parts so let me know if you need anything while you are here.

I have finished the design and construction of the XTAL Oscillator
for the Modified XMS Controllers. I posted a .JPG of the schematic
