Hello, Titan Families,

This message is to remind you that Back to School Night is tomorrow, September 23. Here you will find the . This is a live link, which allows our staff to update the schedule in real time if necessary. Therefore, it is recommended that you do not make a copy of the schedule.

The night will begin with an introduction and welcome by the principal. Only 1000 people are able to attend this portion of the evening. As such, we scheduled another introduction and welcome at 6:45 p.m. for the families who missed the first one. After the introduction and welcome, families will have the opportunity to attend a breakout session of their choice beginning at 6:15 p.m.

Beginning at 7:00 p.m., parents will be able to visit students’ classes, where teachers will give a live overview of their courses. You will need to “visit” classes with your students as an MCPS.net account is required to visit students’ classes. You can find your teacher’s Zoom links .

While visiting classes, if you find you need support, you can get help by going to the. Using the Resource Help Line you can also access our presenters (Counseling, ESOL, SPED, AP/IB, Media Center, PPW & PCC, and Athletics) between 7:15 p.m. 8:15 p.m.

Finally, between 8:40 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., the AEHS administration will hold an open forum if you have questions. Unfortunately, the capacity for the forum will only allow up to 300 people.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow. Have a great evening!

Pretend like you are coming to school and instead of making a left into the bus lines (big area in front of the office), continue straight down the hill to the back of the school.?

You will see the portables on your left.?

?I am pretty sure that when you go down the hill, it says do not enter, busses only(or something like that).

I think you can drive around either side of the school to get closer but either way you still have to walk to the portables.?

old magazines for collaging

Hi All - I am a parent of a VAC grad with ~ 30 old magazine issues (Nylon and Teen Vogue)? that students may be able to use for collaging. Good condition (neither super dusty nor moldy) We can box them and they can be left for 2 weeks to allay all COVID concerns. We will hold onto them until end of September.

Anyone who is interested pls send me an email - thanks,

D Cannon

Need your artists’ help

Carolyn V Scalera

?Calling all Titan Artists!
The PTSA would like to send out back to school postcards to all staff and we need your help.
If you’re interested in using your art to help spread some cheer, please send me your postcard design by Tuesday (I know not much time but you can do it!)

Something positive and uplifting like “You’ve got this!” Or “we’re all in this!” Or smthg else clever that conveys hope and good thoughts for a new school year. Doesn’t need to be elaborate.

Feel free to sign your design as you would any piece of art unless you’d like to remain anonymous.

These will come from the PTSA to all staff.

If you plan to send smthg just shoot me an email so I know if I need to come up with a Plan B.

I hope to hear from you!

Dear VAC Parents & Students of the Incoming?VAC Class or 2024:?

Since March we had hoped to invite all new members of our VAC community to an orientation event. The seriousness of the Covid 19 Pandemic has made it impossible for us to meet "in person" to present an overview of the VAC Program and the first year curriculum.?

After receiving word from M.C.P.S. that all instructions for Semester One (2020-21 school year) will be presented/hosted virtually. We have been actively collaborating and adapting the VAC's curriculum to best serve our students while we remain in quarantine at home. We are working to develop new and inventive ways to socially engage with incoming students and to involve them in interesting, creative activities that will grow their minds and artistic talents.

Every year we make a commitment to our students and ourselves to get to know each student's personality, abilities, talents, and potential. First semester we will ask all students to accept that we are in "complicated times" and that they will be asked to interact with others online and to make sustained efforts to be thoughtful, mindful and willing to try new things....but...we are expecting each student to "just be themselves." We know that all incoming VAC students are amazing, unique people with many, varied gifts.? We look forward to getting to know each student and for them to meet and interact with each other on a regular basis.

We would? like to invite you to join us for a VAC Class of 2024 ZOOM Question & Answer:

Re: Hello

Hello Awo and Valerie,
my son Noam is also an incoming 9th grader to the VAC. ?I too worry about the start of High School in a virtual setting. ?I’m really bummed that they will be missing out so much in the social side of things in the VAC.
That said, I know that this is the safest way at this point.
my eldest is an alum of the program and I have to say that if there is any teachers that can figure things out in a creative way I’m sure Ms. Harris and Ms. Walsh will! ?They are the most amazing teachers ever!
looking forward to the kids meeting each other eventually but for now on Zoom:)
take care,
Chaya

Re: Summer Assignments

Amanda Garzon

It is nice to be connected with everyone. Creativity has been tough in the time of Covid. My 11th grader has not been doing much art this summer and I'm hoping she'll get re-engaged by doing at least one of the summer assignments. I know she's looking forward to the upcoming school year to re-connecting with the teachers and other students again.

Hope everyone is well!?

I think the summer assignment question varies from family to family.? We’ve found that although the assignments are optional, they do help our daughter prep for the year. ?

We should know more later this week about how to best communicate with the teachers and where things stand on Remind.? Their emails are below, and as Ms. Walsh mentioned, they don’t yet have the student lists and are just starting to ramp up.? There are a lot of questions and not that many answers yet, but we should know more this week.

I know they’ve used the Remind App in the past.
Ive been having some issues with it and can’t figure out how to fix those.

Hello, everyone, and welcome! I am really hoping this is a good year for all our kids despite the fact that schooling will be virtual in the fall. It's really going?to be a challenge. I also know, based on my own daughter's experience in VAC, how important that in-person bonding time is for the kids in the studio! One of the best things about VAC for us was that our daughter found "her people" after feeling like the odd one out in middle school. I hope you all are able to find ways to support that for your kids this year.

This list has so little traffic that I actually forgot it existed until an incoming parent asked to join the yahoo list a couple days ago! I realized that it was never migrated to before the December 2019 deadline so I went ahead and just recreated the group on the new platform.

Because my daughter graduated from AEHS last spring, we are moving on to our next big thing and leaving AEHS and the VAC behind. I need someone to step in as the new owner for this list. It would be nice for that person to be the parent of a younger VAC student. Ideally, it would be good for more than one person to administer the list.

If anyone is willing to take this on, please email me.
