RF Board update.

开云体育

BTW… the new stack of RF Boards here… have the following updates:

?

  1. Removed all of the MF stuff but left the jumpers to CLK0 and CLK1 so that they could be driven from something else or checked with no load.? MF done in software now.
  2. Added a cap C74 at the junction of L7 and Y1 VDD. ??This was inadvertently missed in all versions.? If anything, cleans up the noise floor a little.
  3. Changed U106 to a AD8599, and U107 to a OPA2209 (better S/N by at least 20 db). ??Better parts, but the previous parts will work (Identical footprints) in a pinch too with higher S/N.
  4. U21 pin 27 now not connected to anything.
  5. Holes behind the PE4302/PE4312 attenuators to make them easier to solder.

?

This is not intended as a replacement for existing V12.6 RF boards… but rather convenience upgrades if you need a new RF board.

?

I think the RF board is incredible.? It rivals many of the commercial radios I have in my radio room.? Lots of people here and all over the world helped with prototyping, building, suggestions and insight, and testing to make this so.

Mornin' Bill:

I'd like to order one of the new RF boards. Is there a new schematic for the board? I didn't see it on your web site.

My bad, I loaded the wrong schematic. If I want to add C74, is it a 0.1?F bypass cap like C85?

Thanks!

You can do it on your board by just standing the capacitor straight up in the air from the leg between Y1 and L7… and the other side to a close ground pin.? I did that and it seemed to work fine.

Yep sorry.. .that’s it.?? It IS on the new schematic.? I think what happened is I tried to put it on the schematic (gave it one designator) and then I asked Oliver to do it and we got different part designators between us.? I’ll get that cleaned up tonight.

In terms of reworking an existing board it looks like I need to:
1. Remove U19, U20, U22 and U23 along with associated capacitors (capacitor removal looks optional as they are no longer connected).? Install JP18 and JP 19.??
2. Add a 0.1uF capacitor at the junction of L7 and Y1 VDD.??
3. Change U106 to a AD8599, and U107 to a OPA2209.
4. U21 pin 27 currently shows disconnected on the schematic I have.? Do I need to do anything with this?
?
Does this look correct?

With the addition of the following:

?

  1. Change the following capacitors to 20pF - C33, C37, C46, and C54
  2. Replace capacitors C35, C48 to 0 Ohm resistors (eg jumpers).? Just mount them on top of the existing caps.

?

That’s it.?? You don’t NEED to do any of this, but you can do it… to get better performance from your existing T41.? That includes better RX S/N and better TX audio bandwidth and spectrum and calibration.? We are splitting hairs a bit here though.? IF you have a perfectly good working RF board that you are happy with… then just leave it.

?

I think the jury is still out on if it makes sense to use 0 Ohm jumpers for ?C32, C36, C42 and C51 too…? We should have this resolved shortly.

I completed my RF board last fall based upon the BOM "T41_RF_Board_BOM_V012.6_02-25-24.xlsx".? My RF board seems
to work OK although "how well" is still a question.? I have not followed properly the various messages about possible/suggested
changes to the RF board and I am wondering if there is a single location where one can find a complete summary of
the "latest and greatest" upgrades/modifications since the February 25, 2024 bill of materials was issued.
