Problems with mini-360 Buck Regulator [1 Attachment]

Did you adjust the buck regulator to make sure it was putting out 5V?

Has anyone else experienced power problems with the DDS VFO kit (QST Mar16) ??

When I first powered up the board, the VFO worked but when I monitored the signal on a hf receiver the signal sounded very bad. ?I then monitored the signal on my Elecraft K3 with the P3 spectrum monitor. ?The signal looked terrible. ?See the attached photo.

I then tried powering the VFO through the USB cable and it worked fine. ?Signal looked great on the spectrum monitor. ?I suspected the mini-360 since it is inactive when the unit is powered through the USB cable.

Long story short, after replacing the first mini-360 with another one which seemed better but not good, I ultimately replaced the mini-360 with a 7805 regulator. ?DC current through the power supply is about 100mA higher, but otherwise everything seems fine.

Has anyone had similar experiences? ?Or, perhaps I just bought some bad mini-360s on eBay...they were sure cheap enough.

Jack,

Yes, adjusting the regulator for output of 5VDC was not a problem. ?I checked the voltage again while observing the problem and it was spot on 5V.

Thanks,
Lee
