Re: RA8875 display problems with T4.x - a visual study
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWell there is no real absolute way its done as you probably know, you first need to determine the noise floor (for the mode) and that is usually the point at which the (S+N)/N = 3db (and of course, its bandwidth sensitive and frequency dependent).? If all you are interested in is the absolute noise floor at a frequency you can do this with a dummy load. ??Then the radio sensitivity is the point 10 db = (S+N)/N.? This is the point at which the signal is 10 db stronger than the receiver noise (Definition for voice comms and there are a couple of ways to do this¡ but most commonly with a signal generator, a good adjustable attenuator).? If you do this in CW with a narrow filter it¡¯s taken to be 3 db.? [I could write a book here but wont] ? For the two V11 and V12 radio display impact, the difference between the display handling stuff is to determine the noise floors for each¡ difference them. ?Its not completely fair but it is representative. ? ? ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAh¡ old fashion Automatic Volume Control (AVC) dated from the old tube radios¡to control the volume of the radio as to not blow out your ear drums¡ ?as opposed to RF Gain (or Automatic Gain Control) that prevents over-driving the snot out of the radio RF circuits (like the front end!) causing flat-topping, distortion, etc.? FW: [SoftwareControlledHamRadio] boards and kits and stuff
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJohn¡ This is good work.? ? I just ordered the parts for the Display Driver kits after I got good reports from 4 of the 5 kits I sent out for people to try.? The parts for the remainder of the Drivers should be here by Tuesday.? I¡¯ll send you one when the parts get here. ? My goal is to generate a PCB type box to put over the display to keep the RFI down to a minimum.? If you can help me design those boxes for the % and 7 inch displays, I¡¯ll have some made and send you a couple to try out.? As you know, his makes a HUGE difference in the usable floor and weak signal reception/ sensitivity of the receiver. ? I am interested in getting a 3.3 V board to see if it will further improve the receive noise on 6M by reducing radiation from the cable between the Main and Display boards. I have an AI6YM chassis with V12 Main, RF, and Front Panel boards. I use a 5" display in a shielded enclosure which greatly improved the RX noise floor on 80M through 10M (see the attachment).
