Re: T41 SDT Version 66 with Calibration

With 1kHz from a signal generator into the audio hat and the radio in TX mode I'm not seeing any IQ output from the hat. The three clocks seem to be present although I'm not sure what frequency they should be.

Good news,

checked again tonight and I didn't get any error messages.

The problem happened on my home desktop and my work Windows 7Pro
laptop, thankfully I'm not having any problems now.

When it did happen I could view other .pdf from other websites. All
good now :-)

Re: T41 SDT Version 66 with Calibration

Hi Al,
Tried your suggestion regarding the tone using Ver066_3. Applied a 1K
tone to the mike jack, keyed the PTT no audio. Audio into the audio
card but nothing coming out on the scope. Tried with a mike with the
same result. Swapped audio cards from my Ver 11 radio same result no
audio. Again loaded the last revision from Oliver that I sent you
last night. Audio works fine both in and out of the audio adapter,
both tone and mike with power out on the wattmeter and dummy load.. CW
also works with that version, just no sidetone but power out. Swapped
adapters again audio in and out ok, so they appear to be working.
Each time I have tried a different software version I have wiped the
teensy to blink. CW keyed provides sidetone and 18 watts out on the
watt meter without calibration with Ver066_3. Switched back to SSB,
nothing from the mike jack or adapter. BTW, no problem with receive
audio. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

To Everyone having problems with SSB calibration, especially SSB PA power. I did not make it very clear that a signal must be applied to the Mic jack. I will emphasize this in the final version of the Calibration instructions.
I use 1KHz from a signal generator at about 20mV. Set the Mic gain to zero (0) and the power level to 10W. The objective is to set the Mic gain so you get 10W out for an appropriate input signal. In as much as this varies from rig to rig, we can't exactly specify a signal level.

CW Pa adjustment uses an internally generated signal.

it is important that the Cal steps be done in order. Especially check that Transmit IQ setting is done prior to doing the SSB PA power cal.

I just tried all of the Calibration modes with V66.3, and everything works properly on my system.

If you are still having SSB Power issues, please check to make sure that an audio signal is getting into the system. Check the connections between the Audio hat and the Main board.

Hope this works.

The cost from Dr. Schmidt for new 12.6 boards is minimal, but if you have boards with the SMDs already in place, I would finish the kit with what you have. If you're not happy with what results, converting to new boards wouldn't be too bad, as you might be able to cannibalize most of the expensive parts from the existing boards.? Another alternative is to buy the populated board(s) from Justin ().

?

One more thing: I have a 4SQRP system and it works well. That said, I did swap out the PA board for Bill's PA and it is much better than our original design as it doesn't try to fit a square peg (i.e., the IRF510) into a round hole, resulting in a much better power curve that it flat out to 6M. It's worth it.

Re: T41 SDT Version 66.3 with Calibration

Hi Al,
Tried your latest release 066-3 and still cannot get IQ xmit cal to
work. RF is a little better but no tone or very low. Thinking I might
have a problem I loaded in a release from 01-07-25, attached zip, and
using your latest CAL instructions using my FT-991A I am able to
calibrate IQ xmit, only tried 7200 but it did work. I also used this
version on my Tiny SA ULTRA and got the same numbers. Maybe they are
not right Gain 1.007 Phase -0.02 and not even sure this software
version is doing it correctly?
