Re: slow starting on T41 kit

Over the last couple of days I've made attempts to view the .pdf files, both on my Ubuntu desktop and a Win& laptop at work.? The .pdf are not working, instead I have this message: Unable to render code block
?
At this point I don't know what I can do to view the files.

Actually you can mix and match the earlier version boards with the newer versions… check the upgrade paths on my GITHUB here:

The cost from Dr. Schmidt for new 12.6 boards is minimal, but if you have boards with the SMDs already in place, I would finish the kit with what you have. If you're not happy with what results, converting to new boards wouldn't be too bad, as you might be able to cannibalize most of the expensive parts from the existing boards.? Another alternative is to buy the populated board(s) from Justin ().

?

One more thing: I have a 4SQRP system and it works well. That said, I did swap out the PA board for Bill's PA and it is much better than our original design as it doesn't try to fit a square peg (i.e., the IRF510) into a round hole, resulting in a much better power curve that it flat out to 6M. It's worth it.

Re: T41 SDT Version 66.3 with Calibration

Hi Al,
Tried your latest release 066-3 and still cannot get IQ xmit cal to
work. RF is a little better but no tone or very low. Thinking I might
have a problem I loaded in a release from 01-07-25, attached zip, and
using your latest CAL instructions using my FT-991A I am able to
calibrate IQ xmit, only tried 7200 but it did work. I also used this
version on my Tiny SA ULTRA and got the same numbers. Maybe they are
not right Gain 1.007 Phase -0.02 and not even sure this software
version is doing it correctly?

I reset the Teensy and loaded the version 66.1 S/W. Everything seems to work. I did the Frequency Calibration with a GDO @10MHz and got ~0.1Hz error. However, when I tried the Receive IQ Calibration, I couldn't start Autotune. There seems to be a problem recognizing the pushbuttons. I could only get "Increment" and "Save" to work, and they took several key presses. The information display shows both "Decode" and "User 2" used for Autotune/Autocal. I was able to perform the calibration manually with increment = 0.001, and corrected to -75dB to -80dB on all bands. The pushbuttons work fine otherwise. Does the Mode or Demod matter before starting the Receive IQ Cal?

Hi Everyone,
I have attached the latest version of the T41 code. I believe it is in good shape but has yet to be thoroughly vetted. I am posting it now, ahead of a formal release to enable some of the builders who are having a difficult time with earlier versions to run a known working version.
This version has the latest Calibration routines; however, it has not gone through Jack's review yet. Jack and I agreed to put this out temporarily so you can give it a try.
Please report any issues to Jack and me.
We will review the code and post a final release in a week or so.
I am also attaching a copy of the Calibration instructions PDF. You will also find abbreviated instructions in each calibration routine.
?
Note that this is for V12.6 hardware only. Some of the calibration routines will not work with V11 or earlier.
?
It is good practice to erase the Teensy4.1 prior to up-loading, since much of the EEPROM has changed. To clear all memory, press and hold the Teensy load button until the LED by the USB port flashes. Release and wait until the main LED begins to flash. The Blink program is then loaded and EEPROM is cleared.
In the code go the Setup in the .ino file and uncomment the line at 3130 the first time you upload. Comment out that line the next time you upload.
In the IDE select "Optimize: Faster with LTO", set the USB type to "Serial". You may have to select the Teensy port the first time you upload.
?
We encourage everyone to upgrade to V12.6 Main and RF boards. The V12.6 performance is greatly enhanced.
Good luck and let us know how it works for you.
Regards,
Al Peter

Re: slow starting on T41 kit

Ron:

The cost from Dr. Schmidt for new 12.6 boards is minimal, but if you have boards with the SMDs already in place, I would finish the kit with what you have. If you're not happy with what results, converting to new boards wouldn't be too bad, as you might be able to cannibalize most of the expensive parts from the existing boards.? Another alternative is to buy the populated board(s) from Justin ().

Biggest headache was caused by using Chinese Long pin header in Teensy.
All kinds of issues croped up. Changed to Long Pin headers made correctly with almost square pins not pins stamped from thin brass sheet.
ProtoSupplies.com has correct headers and lots of other quality STUFF.?
I can now install audio hat without issue.
Installing ferrite sleeves on Display and Front panel ribbon cleared hang ups.
Still have some FW issues, 66 looses audio and or decode after rx calibration. Also lots of wide band noise on sections of 20m (maybe others) parts of band work ok.
The experimental Hex file that I believe Jack sent me seems to be the most stable.
I did mess up a few of the BPF's that was my issue and I know what to did wrong.
Happy for now, I needed to get to a feel good spot before starting big project for scout camp that got ravaged from Helene.?
Thanks all who contributed looking forward to finishing in near future.

As promised here are a few pics of the inside....

Many boards are mounted horizontally, on aluminum and 3D printed standoffs. The PA and driver and UI systems are all vertically mounted.
The LPF-BPF boards are mounted on a piece of tinned PCB material and the whole thing is mounted above the RF board.

Hope the pics help a little

Very nice Jerry. My amp is "hollow" state using a 3-500Z. Always wanted to build a tube one and I finally did it. I didn't cover 160M, but may add it some day.... or a dedicated amp. I do have some 4-250s I could make into a dedicated 160 amp...
