Re: XMIT Calibration

Thanks for the information on Mini Circuits transformer parts. Unfortunately the minimum quantity buy is 20 pieces per each of the two types. Has anyone ordered these quantities with two of each that they can sell to me? Tonight I plan on a close examination and testing of the QSD and QSE transformers that I wound months ago. Thanks for the tip on these being the possible cause of my calibration issue.
Thanks,
Frank K1FFJ

Minicircuts ADT2-1T+ is the correct output V11 QSE transformer replacement.?

Minicircuits ADT1-1+ is the correct input V11 QSD transformer if desired.?

Re: XMIT Calibration

Speaking of transformers, don't make the assumption that the enamel won't break down while winding it. I had that happen recently. I always check for continuity and shorts on transformers and 99.99999% of the time they are fine, but I'm glad I check this one as the enamel abraded off while I was winding it. Pretty sure I would have blown something with a dead short. It only takes a minute to check.

They can¡¯t meet the demand for the Pi-4¡¯s left over from COVID¡ and now have another competing piece of hardware on tap.? Yikes.

They also ran afoul with supply issue due to some of the suppliers objecting to them moving away from being a non-profit foundation and with them moving to make there own silicon and side stepping some of their supplier agreements. ?All of that made it hard to get enough parts to produce the Pi 4s in any kind of quantity, hopefully the 5s won¡¯t have as much of an issue with part suppliers.

Re: Raspberry Pi 5 announced - 2.4GHz quad-core 64-bit Arm Cortex-A76 CPU

I have one coming from PiShop as well, but I was sent a priority order code from the Raspberry Pi Press. ? I think if you have the code it ships right away but if not your on the pre-order list and it will ship by oct. 30 IF, they still have any in stock.

Re: XMIT Calibration

Totally. Mine had an open center tap ( wrong part in place) that made a huge difference when I got it working correctly.?

Also to check are the four test points that come from the op amps to the ¡®3253 chip. Tp 3,4,5,6 all should show signal. And very carefully inspect the U3 solder joints as well as the flip flop¡¯s and test points tp7,8 which should have a nice clean square wave at near or on the dial frequency.?

Also run the xmit cal and go up and down, just to verify the thing is really broken. I managed to have a band that showed this symptom until I got phase and gain in the right ballpark.?

Re: XMIT Calibration

Hi all,
Actually a great idea with using earbuds from Larry KB3CUF. Unfortunately the earbud test only confirms that the "L" and "R" channels are working correctly and getting to the QSE board. When removing either "L" or "R" from the Teensy audio adapter one channel on the earbuds disappears. At no time do both "L" and "R" disappear together when the other is still connected. This would eliminate the "L and "R" being shorted as you suggest. It further suggests that neither signal is "missing". I had tested this with an ohmeter and the earbud test just confirnmed that both circuits are working and connected. Any other ideas guys??
Thanks,
Frank K1FFJ

in that tiny form factor with the same nice experimenter-friendly GPIO header.

Re: Raspberry Pi 5 announced - 2.4GHz quad-core 64-bit Arm Cortex-A76 CPU

I don't disagree with your sentiment, but I can say that it will almost certainly be easier for a manufacturer in 2023 to mass produce a brand-new design than to try and continue manufacturing a design that was produced 2-3 years ago (or longer).? Legacy parts are the issue for production presently; if you have a new blank-slate design you can avoid much/all of that, and ensure that your design uses parts being built on fabrication technologies that are not production-constrained (within reason, of course!).? There are many many parts readily available, but if your design uses even a single one that is not (with no drop-in replacement), production is blocked.

I have used every generation of Pi up to this point, either personally or professionally, but I think I'll wait a while to try the 5.? As Jack stated, wait for the dust to settle :)

Things are looking up in this regard with RPi4s slowly making their way into the USA.? I just purchased a RPi4 4Gb model from an authorized reseller for an automation project at our church.? Paid the MSRP price, not an inflated price from a bootleg reseller.
