I ended up with going with a 78 inch wide, 54 inch length generic I found on ebay for $130. It is white vinyl, which I am actually a fan of. This one has an aluminum frame, which I like because it is lighter. I only use them in the summer, the rest of the year I take them off or fold them back, and I'll fold it back when I race. Mounting went fine, it is mounted to the deck on the outside of the coaming (I didn't want to mount to the coaming because I was afraid it might interfere with line handling. Headroom underneath is decent, I have to stoop a little but it certainly isn't bad. PLENTY of room under the boom. We had our first big rain this weekend and it didn't develop any water pockets, so it seems good to go. Photos posted in my album on in the photo section. -Mark PS - Hope everyone's spring is going well and you are getting time on the water! I'm having a lot of fun -- I'm 2 for 2 in my spring series -- the folding prop made it feel like a different boat. The 6 second/mile I was getting for the three blade in NO way made up for the loss of speed! --- In s227classassociation@..., "MarkS" <mark_swart@...> wrote:

Thanks for the photos, Mark.
I just bit the bullet and bought a Taylormade model (from WM for too much $ apparently.) I'm mounting it similarly to yours but the 72" length has the front tubes crowding the winch handle. I may need to make it adjustable with a sliding collar on the tubes. Or try for a shorter one. My mate has been to the dermatologist too many times for me to postpone getting the bimini another year. The warm spring has us in the water on the Chesapeake earlier than ever! Thanks, Bob |
