Locked Mortek ignition system? 3
Has anyone had any experience with a Mortek electronic ignition system? My '76 R90S has one and the bike electrical system is screwed up somehow. First the headlight did not work. Then while riding with the parking light only on, after about 45mins the bike died and would not start. Finally got it going rough and rode it home after a few tries and now starter does not work. Lots of clicking only. Battery is new. Maybe it's the diode board? All wiring on the bike is as good as new.. Thanks for any help! Steve in Maine

Locked EZ Clutch Story + R90S With Mac Kirkpatrick & Todd Trumbore: Barber Motorsports, 2018 17
Ok, a wee bit of a (I'm stuck in my house) story: A friend, Rob Caso, and I restored two R90Ss about ten years ago, even did the paint. See a pic of my bike, attached, (with Todd Trumbore @ Barber in Alabama). I think I posted that pic previously and I have also related some parts of my R90S resto story in the past. Anyway, after the resto, the clutch lever worked very easily, I was very surprised at how easy the clutch pulled in, and that had me comparing clutch pulls on other R90Ss and none of them were near as easy as mine was. But I was grateful for how easy it was to pull in the clutch even though the "easiness" of it made no sense. THEN about 6 months ago the clutch started to slip, you know, give it gas in 5th and the tach starts to spin up uncontrollably. Now this was the 4th time the clutch had started to slip, two previous times there was too much lube on the splines, even though I did not think there was, and the clutch on my friend's restored R90S never slipped. So this clutch thing was driving me crazy. In frustration, I finally just took it to my dealer. But before that I had inquired of an expert who replied in an all knowing manner that he had told me 10 years ago I had the wrong spring installed, it was for an R75 and R90, not for the higher horsepower R90S; the proper R90S spring ended in part number -035, and even my dealer recently referred me to yet another spring number! I was mystified as to what was going on. So finally Karl Myers took it all apart (thanks Karl!) and the part number stamped on my spring WAS the -035 part number, the correct one. Then he installed a new spring and put it all back together. I have not ridden the bike yet (yea for COVID-19), NOT... But now the clutch pull is like it should be, TOO difficult :-) I was spoiled! (Evidently the original part had not been properly heat treated during manufacture.) So very recently I had my dealer install an EZ Clutch, from Bench Mark Works http://www.benchmarkworks.com Part number: acc018 easy soft clutch This is a device that uses the same principal as when winching in an offroad 4X4 situation; if you run the winch line out to a fixed object, say another vehicle, and run the winch line through a snatch block pulley mounted to that vehicle, see below, and back to the winch, the pulling power is doubled, but the amount of line required to be pulled in, is twice than previously, an acceptable trade off IMO. See pic below of the EZ clutch installed. SO that is my frustrating tale, and if you want an easier clutch pull, I highly recommend the EZ clutch :-) It makes a HUGE difference and actually feels now like only 1/3 of the pressure compared to what was previously required, which would be immensely better say, for city travel with lots of stop and go traffic. Back to being bored....... :-) Mac Kirkpatrick Glenmoore, PA "After all, what is adventure, but inconvenience, properly regarded?" C. Donahue _._,_._,_

Locked Videos on Different Topics 2
I've been following this guy on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-yt5a1cWd4 and IMO he is excellent. The above link tells you if changing oil yearly is required. Others of his vids check for the best batteries, drill bits, whether synthetic oil causes leaks, and much more. His vids are addictive and very good. and We all need some diversions about now. There are many more very good vids about different subjects on YouTube, thank goodness!! Mac Kirkpatrick Glenmoore, PA "After all, what is adventure, but inconvenience, properly regarded?" C. Donahue

Locked Trailered? R90S With Mac Kirkpatrick & Todd Trumbore: Barber Motorsports, 2018 3
We had to trailer them because Todd also towed his travel trailer for him and his g/f to live in, and I used Todd's enclosed trailer so my R90S remained presentable for the show. Todd had space in his travel trailer for his R69S. Mac Kirkpatrick Glenmoore, PA "After all, what is adventure, but inconvenience, properly regarded?" C. Donahue

Locked R90S With Mac Kirkpatrick & Todd Trumbore: Barber Motorsports, 2018 7
Hi all. I received the following picture from Martin Johnson, thanks Martin. It is of Todd Trumbore and myself at the Barber Motorsports Vintage event in 2018. BMW invited us to display some of "their" heritage, Todd had an original immaculate low mileage R69S and I had my restored R90S. We passed out information and literature about the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners Club. This picture brought back a fun time, and it is a nice bright picture, good to enjoy in these trying times. I hope everyone is doing well, and best wishes to everyone. Mac Kirkpatrick Glenmoore, PA "After all, what is adventure, but inconvenience, properly regarded?" C. Donahue

Locked Considering a trade
I have a very nice daily driver '76 SS R90S, the newest among my vintage BMW bikes. It could be driven across the USA today. However, I am interested in trading it for something better suited for the occasional Arkansas gravel road. I would most prefer some Airhead GS, but would consider other makes/models. Locked ground wire for headlight on-off switch? 5
Hi all - hope you're staying healthy. On my '75R90S, there is a brown wire going in to the left-side controls housing, and the wire ends in a tiny right-angle spade connector. The schematic shows it as part of the headlight on-off switch circuit. The wire was down to 2-3 strands, and when I tried to disconnect it to take a closer look, the remaining strands broke. All my lights, horn, turn signals, etc still work. If I am correct about the wire being part of the headlight switch circuit, I will just tape it up and leave it unconnected, as I would NEVER want to turn off my headlight in California traffic! Am I correct that the brown wire is the ground wire for the headlight on-off switch circuit? Thanks. Ran Bush Nor Cal ... Locked Non R90S issue -How is it There? 6
Hi Alberto, thanks for reaching out. For me in the US, in eastern Pennsylvania (sort of near Washington) , we can go out, but schools, restaurants and most businesses are closed (food and drug stores are open and we can go there) and gatherings of more than 10 people is discouraged. My barber shop closed for at least two weeks for instance. The situation is constantly evolving and changing. Food, TP, guns and ammo are being purchased quickly. People who buy "too much" (hoarders) are a problem, but I think that is everywhere. It varies by state and city depending on how serious the local situation is, just as the situation and response varies by country. For instance, San Francisco residents must "shelter in place", but not in my area. I am concerned that folks who live paycheck to paycheck are, right now, low or out of money. The folks who work at my barber shop, for instance, are not receiving any money, and restaurant wait staff, same thing, suddenly no money. I ate at a restaurant last Friday where they normally have 12 wait staff working, they only had 5 because of far fewer customers. And today that restaurant is closed, so no money for anyone, even the owner of the restaurant, and business owners have no income as well, but they have rent or other expenses to pay, just as we all do. If people get desperate, they will do desperate things, but I hope not. Mac Kirkpatrick Glenmoore, PA "After all, what is adventure, but inconvenience, properly regarded?" C. Donahue

Locked R90SWORLDNET] Non R90S issue -How is it There? 2
Frank, what I do not understand is why in Spain you cannot even go for a walk to the beach, forbidden by law and other countries, lets say Germany (with almost same Cv19 cases than Spain) are allowed to have a ¡°promenade¡± or a walk or even go shipping if stores are open. I live near C¨¢diz, south west Spain, Atlantic Ocean, in a area now empty, (houses to rent, vacations, etc), no people nor shops nor petrol stations nor supermarkets in 5 miles around. I have the beach near and I cannot drive my bikes nor go to the beach unless I go to a Pharmacy, petrol station, Supermarket and doctor BUT YES I can take my doggie for a walk but only if alone (not 2 persons). You can go to work and return. It¡¯s crazy. As far as I know there is no world-wide policy for a virus pandemia case. Each country is acting on his own. Bill Gates, on 2015, check this out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Af6b_wyiwI&feature=emb_logo Mike, yes, Spain, a country were most of annual revenues come from tourism and visitors, this situation is a catastrophe, a recession for sure. Dennis, the Johns Hopkins map differs slightly from my local info, but is almost the same. Many thanks, very interesting. Mac, most of Spaniards live as you said, paycheck to paycheck. Its not like UK or USA, ere most of persons since you leave school/college/or start to work are told to keep / save money for retirement. Spain is the contrary, we look to the future saying ¡°Government will pay my pension plan¡±, which is or 500 euro or 2.000 euro, those are the min and max by law. So we spend most if the time at bars, pubs and cafeterias, looking football matches on huge TV¡¯s. Thats our national sport besides Rafa Nadal, Fernando Alonso and Mark Marquez (Tennis, F1 and MotoGP). France called 40 millions to vote last Sunday, I can¡¯t believe it but it happen and the PSOE, political party at power in Spain was calling everybody to go for a walk or manifestation on Sunday 8th March !!!. Its difficult to believe they did not cancel the ¡°first round¡±. I am a lucky man, my family is until date ok Hope you & your families are well. Hi Tito All change here in England in the last 48 hours. New advice to work from home if possible (I can) and to avoid any non-essential travel. People advised not to visit pubs, clubs, restaurants, theatres and so on, but they were not told to close so can¡¯t claim even if insured. All sport off. Lots of concern about the economic impact. Roads quiet. Supermarket shelves with lots of empty spaces. Very glad I¡¯m in Devon not in London. Look after yourselves and your loved ones everybody. Mike
