Locked washing / waxing the R90s?
After washing and drying, buff out swirls and scratches with Turtle Wax Color Back. Then wax with Mother's pure carnauba wax. You will love it! On Tue, Oct 25, 2022, 12:39 PM James Marciano <marciano@...> wrote:

I've always used Plexus on paint and windshield...spray on, wait a minute, and buff off with a microfiber cloth.? Works well on helmets too.

The paint on my ¡®76 SS is still in remarkably good condition although it has plenty of patina and a few chips. I¡¯m also interested in hearing advice on how to maintain this type of paint job. I feel both much more responsible as well as nervous when it comes to preserving this motorcycle, particularly the paint.

i, too, have an original paint R90S, and also want to preserve it¡ªpatina and all. i inherited some rashes at those upper front corners of the fairing from some probable mishaps in the garages of two previous owners and i¡¯m not sure how to deal with those. the small chips and scratches don¡¯t bother me so much but those are obviously more apparent. any thoughts appreciated

I¡¯m also interested in hearing advice on how to maintain this type of paint job. I feel both much more responsible as well as nervous when it comes to preserving this motorcycle, particularly the paint. In I have a fairly short section, #3A, on products that have worked exceptionally well. It may be slightly out of date. Probably not mentioned are: There are certain things that will greatly help in keeping the paint in good condition. Keep the bike clean, by using a mild car wash type of SOAP, suitably thinned with water. AVOID detergents. Use a good product (see that link above) for "waxing".....see the link. Try to keep the bike out of the sun when not being ridden. Sunlight has a lot of UV....understand that some colors tend to fade much faster than others, and the fading problem is only partially 'handled' by waxing. While you can use silicone products, see what I said about them. Cover the bike when you can, but beware of some problems.....especially beware of rain covers, tarps, etc., that, in even light wind, can flap against the paint...this is especially so with those that are not tied down in many ways. Allowing 'gritty stuff' carried by the wind is really hard on the paint......and such niceties as tank bags, especially magnetically-held-on ones, can let your gas tank be rubbed more than you may think. In many instances, a paint job can be quite well restored, with some labor and the correct products. Those products and usage are also in the article, although not directly for paint, but for plastic windshields and visors. The good ones generally work quite well on most every type of paint, including clear coatings. DO NOT use power buffers. Those who have converted to a master cylinder on the bars should take much care not to spill brake fluid on any paint job. Avoid spilling any gasoline when fueling-up. Don't overfill the tank. If you are thinking about riding through a dust storm, try to find shelter...even a bridge can help.
