Locked BMW R90s International Register

It is not easy to write the following:

In May 2, 1994 I started the BMW R90S International Register. I was
extremely pleased to see it grow in numbers. I was estatic when
through word of mouth I received the first member from overseas.

In May 1996 I had a breakdown when I caught my wife to be in bed with
someone else. I strongly believe that motorcycling and the Register
kept me going.

In June 1997 as part of the healing process I toured America meeting
Register owners. It was a trip that I'll never forget meeting such
riders as Rick Griffiths. Thanks Rick.

In May 2000 my business collapsed resulting in being financially
wiped out. I had no choice but to declared bankruptcy. From a fully
owned house, 3 BMW's (1987 K100RS, 1976 R90S and a 1956 R26) and a
car I was left with practically nothing. Under Australian Bankruptcy
Act I'm not allowed to own more than 1 vehicle. All the bikes had to
be sold. (Thankfully the new owners understand my situation and let
me have access to the bikes. I'm allowed to buy the bikes back after
3 years)

From July 1, I became unemployed, owned a 13 year old car, a Hi-Fi
system, my old computer and a TV. I lost all my life savings leaving
me with a total amount of $174.00.

I was placed on medication due to stress.

I have been fortunate to find employment. From a (House building)
Company Director I now spend 9 hours a day testing, cleaning and re-
labeling car batteries. Currently the biggest battle is not to lose
the house.

This time the Register is not going to keep me going. I can't afford
to keep it running. The cost of postage of the newsletter or the
Annual Report to 150 members from 14 countries is equal to a month of
groceries or a household payment.

Since I don't want to see it fall by the wayside, I have no choice
but to place the Register on the open market and sell it. This was
not an easy decision, I have been debating this action for the last 2
months.

Naturally I prefer to see it go to a R90S member but as a begger I
can't be a chooser.

I promise you this, whoever buys it will be richly rewarded making
contact with so many R90S owners around the world.

Dear Frank,
First, I'de like to say thanks. I came across your site in the winter of 1999 after I bought my R90s. I can say with all honesty that your enthusiasm and commradery was largely responsible for the passion with I now have for the "ess".
It would be a shame to loose contact with many of the world-wide members of the International Registry. It would be neat if we could find a way to roll them into the National R90s Sport Owners Club. But admittedly, I don't know how this might be done or what kind of monetary value you might place on the membership list. Afterall, we are all hobbyists here, without any business interests. In any case, I personnaly am interested to do my part, depending upon what level of interest there might be with the membership.
Thanks, again. And good luck getting back on your feet... because you gotta buy the "S" back one day so you can do donuts on your ex-wifes front lawn.

G'day Kirk,

It would be neat if we could find a way to roll them into the National R90s
Sport Owners Club. I have already approached them but they're not
interested. From what I gather they only want American riders.

Currently there are 145 members on the Register. Members are from Australia,
America, England, Mexico, Sweden, Canada, Belgium, Germany, France, New
Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Netherlands and Portugal.

Whoever takes over the Register the hard work to establish it is over. Now
it's smooth sailing. In the time I've started the Register I've been to USA
and have been invited to Spain, Sweden and Africa.

I don't know how this might be done or what kind of monetary value you might
place on the membership list. Even I don't know that, all I know is that I'm
bankrupt, fighting not to lose my house (I've lost everything else) I'm just
a shadow of my former self. I agree I'll come good but it will take a few
years. Yes I'll get my beloved R90S back.

In any case, I personnaly am interested to do my part, depending upon what
level of interest there might be with the membership. Can you elaborate
please?

donuts on your ex-wifes front lawn. I love the idea.

Frank

Rick Griffith

I joined the register back in 1995 and then found out that Frank was
planning to come to America the next year. We finally got to meet in the
summer of '96 and spent an entire weekend at our cottage on a lake in
southern Michigan. I couldn't get Frank up on water skiis, but did manage to
whip him around pretty good on a tube attached to our boat! I think he also
found out how great Michigan sweet corn is. A lot of beer flowed that
weekend Frank.

One of the highlights was stopping in at the local Harley dealer (about 3
miles from my cottage) where that weekend they had a travelling display in a
semi trailer. Inside was a Harley model XA, a direct copy from a WWII BMW!
Even Harley couldn't ignore German engineering.

My biggest disappointment was going to Australia last year to work at the
Olympic site and couldn't get the time off to drive down to Melbourne to
visit my old friend. For there waiting for me was Frank's pristine R90s and
the Australian backroads.

Frank, look at this as a setback. You'll have your S back one day.

Rick

I certainly remember the weekend at the cottage besides the lake. A lot of
beer flowed that weekend Frank. You said it. It was as enjoyable to ring a
Sydney hotel and saying a G'day mate to Rick .

Frank, look at this as a setback. You'll have your S back one day. When
mates found out about losing my R90S they came to the rescue, a bit late,
but they came just the same. Bought new in '76 I was about to do the 380,000
klm service.
