(602) Marianna Saturday ~7:10 UTC

This is a good one that right now has a 50/50 chance of being clear here (I'll take those odds this time of the year).? Low number, so fairly wide path--roughly 75 miles.? Path centerline from just south of Akron to just north of Boston.? Mag 10.8 and drop of 3.3, duration of about a minute (!), 52 degrees up in the east.??
?
Right now Kevin G and I are signed up, as well as Vince in AZ with two stations.? I haven't decided how many stations I'll do on this one yet.

When you post an event, if you could (if it's handy to..) post a link to the event on OWC, or even an Occult4 path map, that would be helpful.
As they say, a picture is worth 1000 words. Thx.
Good luck on the event.

I also read the digest, sometimes I get the alert after the fact, especially if you send it the day of the event. Also, a link would be great as suggested by George. But no worries, I know it¡¯s a big enough job to organize your own stations, let alone anyone else¡¯s.

I¡¯ll join this event as a support cord in case there are any oddities such as moons, even though I¡¯m well out of the path.

I'll be observing (602) Marianna from West Hartford, CT, north of Westport my usual place, but the site is under the predicted shadow.

Yesterday, I finished the training at JJ McCarthy Observatory in New Milford, CT north of Danbury and was issued a key--first one outside a rather tight and capable group there. The scope is a 17" Plane Wave, and it is a beauty. There are a couple of younger folks who are eager to learn, so my next goal is to get them up to speed. The folks at JJMO are hoping many students will get involved. An issue is that there must be 2 adults present for a single student but just 1 adult for 2 or more students. I will have to be present for most of the observations as best I can tell. There are others there that want to help but have limited time and no experience with occultations. If I'm there, I won't be at New Haven or Westport. Both of those sites are close to being able to work without me being present which is good.

Strong vote for OWC link over a static map image or anything else when discussing an event. My workflow is infinitely easier with such a link.?

Wow, JJM upgraded to a plane wave 17? When I visited Then many years ago (15?) they had a clunky Meade 16¡±, The same telescope as my school at Sacred Heart. Had before we upgraded to plane wave. They were doing asteroid photometry back then, and I always wondered why they didn¡¯t do occultations.?
Glad to hear you got them interested Kevin, their position will be a good complement to the Northeast.

The only issue is since I visited JJM, the area has built up around them with more and more light pollution, I hope they can get full use out of the PW17. Light pollution is the reason why Sacred Heart went with the plane wave 14 and not the 17.?

Stamford observatory, where I performed a few asteroid occultation observations before it was demolished, is in the same situation. They are building a new observatory/planetarium complex there. Light pollution will dictate what telescope they will install.?

Anyway, great news about JJM observatory,
