Finder Scope - Mounting on UC18

Hello! I am brand new to this user group.? I have a UC18 and want to add a finder scope.? Does anyone have suggestions for either the finder scope or on mounting it? ?
Thanks! :)

I have an 18 UC and use Telrad mounted to the optical tube assembly. It is my favorite finder!

It did not come with one.? There is a tube on the UTA for the counter weight.? Dave tightly zip ties the base?
for a TelRad on to that at the bottom of the tube.? It works well.

One my UC 18", the Telrad base is tie-strapped to the counter weight tube. It has worked well for years. Dave also has an adapter if you want to add a finder.

What kind of adapter does Dave have?

Hi Jim ?
thanks for the very fast response. ?I to love the Telrad, first used one way back in 1985 (I think), problem is my eye sight and likely my memory are not as good as they were back in 1985. ?I am just unable to see things?thru?the?telrad anymore.
Normally I use my?binos first, then the?tetrad then the scope. ?But even with my 31mm televue nagler I am just not able to find things ?:(.
I?want to add something like a the 13X80?that is on the obsession website. ?I was hoping someone else has added something?similar and I?could gain from their?experience. ?:)

My thought was to still use both the binos and the?telrad but add the finder scope next before I use the main.

I?have some ideas on mounting it but wanted to see what others may have done.

Thanks!
Steve

I have an 18" classic and not the UC.? I used the Telrad by itself for about 13 years until I got tired of trying to center planets on an imaging chip with a Telrad - it is just not precise enough at a long focal length.? I put on a 13x80 RACI Stellarvue finder that I got from Dave K, and it has really increased by enjoyment of observing with the scope, why did I wait so long to get it?? The 13x80 is a big finderscope, easy to mount on a Classic but might be more problematic with the UC which is probably less forgiving than a Classic balance-wise.

There are times when it would be a problem but a laser pointer might work.

As far as I know Dave is fine.? I had a question for him a couple of months
ago and he was on vacation.

It's a metal piece that bolts onto the upper rim and then has screws for holding a finder base. Essentially a piece angle iron (aluminum) with two approximately 2" screws in. I don't now it they if they are still available. I think Dave is winding down his activities. I'm sure a small shop could make one.

Don Waters?

Thank you.?

You can also use a Pole Clamp for a camera and move the clamp as needed for balance.
Assumes your finder is 1/4-20 female mount.

Good Morning Jeffrey,
Thank you for the information.? I am not sure exactly what you mean.? I just googled "camera pole clamp"? I did not know what it was! ? ? Do you clamp it right to the counter balance tube? ?
I do not have the finder, or a mount yet.? That is to be determined. ?

Do you use the finder in place of the counter balance weight?? Currently my telrad is mounted on that tube.? Do you have one on your scope? if so where is it??

Thanks again,
Steve

BTW, I use the Argo Navis as a GOTO. I find it works great and great support. I do not use the motor drive the the GPS.

No I clamp it to a truss tube. Sometime far down the truss to point with my feet on the ground. And I have a riser for the telrad mounted at the eyepiece so I can see that from the ground as well.
