The dogs and I had a day in the snow on Saturday, 8 January 2022.? We followed the eastbound California Zephyr from Colfax to Soda Springs and saw the good layer of snow that recent storms have dropped on the mountains.??

A BNSF eastbound was waiting in Colfax when we got there just before the Zephyr was due.? It soon left and then #6 followed it into and out of town.? As the Zephyr arrived, as westbound UP freight net it.

I got photos of the Zephyr rounding Cape Horn and then went up? the mountain.? I considered Blue Canyon, but looking at the condition of the road, I did not want to try it in my car.? I then pulled off at Nyack to try to get trackside at Emigrant Gap, but that was a traffic jam of people trying to park to play in the snow.??

After pausing at the scenic overlook, we eventually saw the train ar Yuba Pass, then beat it to Soda Springs.? I was shooting video of the dogs in the snow when the train showed up and I just kept the cell phone going as I shot stills with the DSLR.??

A quick trip east to the Donner Summit overlook on old US 40 and then it was time to head for home.
