Jim,
Yep, we should use the PC to key in normal use.
I use the standard conventions for field movement and entry. Spaces
or tabs move from field to field. "Enter" makes the log entry. I use
the Fkeys after the entry seperately.
The Fkeys could be arranged as below, F2-Fx
TU FD N4N -- USE AS TAIL END, WAIT FOR NEXT CALLER
FD N4N -- NO CALLERS, SHORT CALL FOR MORE
CQ FD DE N4N N4N -- LONGER CALL WHEN DEAD BAND DISEASE SETS IN.
OR WHEN YOU NEED A DRINK...
6A -- FOR FILL
GA -- FOR FILL
6AGA -- FULL REPEAT
N4N -- FOR FILL OR CALLING
%c 6AGA K -- AUTO EXCHANGE WITH INSERT KEY, I DONT REMEMBER WHICH ONE
(F10?)
Your recommendations here too....
I tend to keep the messages separted into the small parts, then you
can string them together with sequential strokes. This seems to be a
bit more flexible than trying to combine things.
I have not used the "Message on entry" funcion, it could be useful.
The 775 manual shows a paddle input on the front, and a straight key
input on the back.
If you test the radio, confirm when the keyer function is "ON" and
the front paddles work, that the rear straight key still works like a
straight key.
If this is the case, then all we need is the paddle, and the computer
lpt to radio straight key jack cable, which I have.
I will get the manual and the cable to you for further testing.
My phone is 770 992 5705, lets set up a time.
I will be out for errands some, so try 147.105 before calling.
Mid day today, Sun, is OK, but before 5PM.

Mike, I'm assuming you are planning to use the PC CW generation in
WriteLog plus a paddle connected to the Built In CW Keyer in the
ICOM
775, correct? I noticed there is only a KEY jack on the back of
the
ICOM 775. Does this mean a Y cable will be required to accept
input
from both the LPT port from the PC AND the paddle?
