A brief comment on fire extinguishers...

Regardig the fire extinguishers...
"Dry Chemical", AKA "PKP" (Purple K Powder) is for Class A, B fires ("leaves and ash", and "burning liquids").
CO2 is compressed Carbon Dioxide gas and leaves the characteristic "frost" when deployed. A good CO2 extinguisher will work on A, B and Class C ("elecrical") fires.
PKP and CO2 extinguishers put out the fire the same way, by "smothering" or removing the Oxygen. The difference is that PKP is reasonably corrosive -- especially when wet and in contact with electrical/electronic equipment.

We could actually make use of both kinds for FD -- the CO2 for any radio gear/power supply-related issues and the PKP for any (higher probability) generator/automobile-related fires.

As Hams, I think we could handle the relatively rare electrical fire easily -- turn off the power, etc. But the "burning liquid" gasoline, etc fire can get out of control very F-A-S-T.

So, if we only have one, let's go with the PKP...near the generators, etc!

Dave.
I will plan on bringing the following on Saturday
morning:

1. One banquet table
2. A few chairs
3. "Erection kit" (home made wire antenna putter
upperer)
4. Laptop computer with either 100BASET or 802.11b
connectivity.

I also have some dry chemical fire extinquishers. Not
sure if that's the same as CO2?

Finally, I have a pickup truck. If it can be helpful
to bring stuff to the site on Saturday morning, just
let me know.

Hey gang!

With Field Day a week away, we're still in need of a
few things you
might have laying around. The short list of items
needed is:

* 5-foot banquet tables (or similar) to set up
stations on (KE4UW
has 2, WB8VTK has 2, N1KDO has 1, need 4 or 5 more)
* Chairs for operating positions: The
chairs-in-a-bag are
available, but awfully uncomfortable if
operating/logging for hours at a
time. Rigid folding chairs or kitchen-type chairs
are much better
(KE4UW has 2 folding chairs, KN6RO has one chair,
need at least 4 more).
* CO2 fire extinguisher (we have several BC powder
types)
* Coax--lots of coax--lots of long runs of RG-8 type
(9913,
RG-213,RG-8, etc) are best for HF. We'll have 7
beams and about as many
wire antennas/verticals, so we will be needing
something like 1400 feet
of coax. If each person brings 100 feet we'll have
plenty.
* Rope--any size, any length. I'm sure we'll have a
hundred uses
for it.
* Slingshot or bow (and someone who knows how to
shoot straight?)
to put wire antennas high up in the trees.
* We could use another laptop or two as backups.
Roger KN6RO can
get the computer set up with Writelog and is
coordinating getting
everything networked if you have any questions on
compatibility.

So, if you are planning to bring any of the above,
please let me know
and we'll strike it off the list.

Thanks! Think FD!
