Head count update

Moss, Dave J \(INPO\)

开云体育

Hey gang!
?
Here's an update on headcount for key evolutions:
?
  • Thursday setup:? 4 (KE4UW-Dave, KN6RO-Roger, and WB8VTK-Eric arriving in the morning, and WA2MBP-Bill arriving in the afternoon)
  • Friday morning:? 11 (KE4UW-Dave, KN6RO-Roger, WB8VTK-Eric, WA2MBP-Jim, AA4RC-Robin, AG4PR-Danny, KR4KZ-Mike, KF4TJY-Shane, KE4ENI-John, N8EKA-Vester, WB4SQ-Gary)
  • Friday afternoon (antenna setup): 12 (Friday morning group, joined by WK4U-Tim)
  • Saturday morning:? 13? (KE4UW-Dave, KN6RO-Roger, WB8VTK-Eric, WA2MBP-Jim, AA4RC-Robin, WK4U-Tim, KG4IUL-Nancy, KR4KZ-Mike, KF4RPQ-Al, KE4ENI-John, N8EKA-Vester, WB4SQ-Gary, KD4SHH-Dave)
  • Others coming Saturday late or Sunday:? 3 (WO0LY-Tim, KF4JVD-Jeff, N1KDO-Jeff)
  • Coming, but I haven't heard when:? 6? N4LIX-Ginger, WB4LUQ-Bill, Mike Hall, Mike Blackwell, Chad Graham, Russ (PARC)
  • Sunday teardown:? 12? KE4UW-Dave, WB8VTK-Eric, KN6RO-Roger, WA2MBP-Jim, WK4U-Tim, KD4SHH-Dave, N8EKA-Vester, KF4RPQ-Al, KG4IUL-Nancy, AG4PR-Danny, WO0LY-Tim, KF4TJY-Shane
  • Undecided, may come:? 6? AF4MP, N4NBL, KE4WIO, KG4VTY, W5BJV, KF4BUT
Total number of people involved (not including undecideds):? 22
?
Biggest shortage is in CW operators.? We have WA2MBP and WK4U as ringers, and Gary WB2SQ and Roger KN6RO have been practicing up.? I'm not sure of callsigns, but I believe one or two of the PARC folks are CW operators as well.? If you know a CW operator who might be interested, by all means invite them!? Heck, kidnap them if necessary!? :-)
?
Compared to last year, we're short a few folks for Thursday setup.? We could use another hand or two, but we should be able to make do with what we have.? On Friday, we have one or two more than last year for the crunch time of noon to dusk, but we'll be trying to put up a few more antennas as well.? Again, we could use some more help, but we've made a priority list for antennas (20m and 40m CW and phone first, others as time allows), and we should be able to come close to raising all 8 beams.? On Sunday, we have about the same number of folks as last year.? Again, we could probably make do, but we can always use more help for teardown when everyone is tired and hungry and anxiously awaiting a hot shower.
?
So, there you have it.? We're OK on the numbers of people, but could still use a few hands, especially with setup and teardown.
?
Think FD!

With a little less than three weeks to go, it’s time to start the last minute rush for field day planning.? Face to face meetings are a challenge, but we found out last year that we can accomplish most of what we need via a 2 meter net/chat. ?So, let’s plan on meeting on the 147.105 repeater (+ offset, PL 100) at 8:00pm on Tuesday for a brief planning session. ?I’ll email an agenda tomorrow.? One of the topics will, of course, be a discussion of which day of the week works best for everyone for the net as we approach the big day.? If you can’t be on tomorrow night, let me know by email or via one of the other folks what your preference would be, and we’ll try to make a plan that will work for most.? If need be, I can make it twice a week (it’s only for another 2+ weeks).

?

Hope to see you there!

2:30. See y'all there! I'm sure I'll still be there at 4pm if some

Hey Dave,

If it's OK with you, we'll work out a plan to pick up the generator ahead of time. I think we're going to need it.

Your call, but I expect to have room in one of the large tents if you'd prefer to be in with the commotion. Don't want the vhf/uhf ops to feel not part of the crowd.

I do have a 5kw generator. If you need it no problem. I will not have
room to bring it in my vehicle, so I would need someone to tote it for
me. I could do the hand off of generator prior to the event. I would
also need some one to store it after the field day until I return from
a trip. One to two weeks.

Okey dokey. By the way, I have you down for the following for FD:

8x8 shelter
6m station (rig, antenna, rotor, antenna support)
80m dipole
Do you also have a generator? I think we might need it if you do. (I'll
bring several 5-gal gas cans)

If you need a rotor or push-up pole for the 6m station, let me know. We
have plenty available somewhere in the group.

If you have any other banquet tables, tents (for radios or sleeping),
operating chairs (the chair-in-a-bag DOESN'T work well), or heavy-duty
(10ga or better) AC distribution stuff, we are in need.

Re: Planning meeting Saturday

Dave,
I might have a working Ham IV by then. It depends on when the repair parts arrive, and when I reassemble the rotor.

Hey gang,

We have only five weeks before the big day! Uh oh, we may be a bit behind on some of the detailed planning, so we plan to have a planning meeting at Hemmingway's on the square in Marietta this Saturday at 4:00pm.

We need to make some decisions on how big of an operation we'll shoot for (6A like last year? 8A? shrink a bit?), and as part of that decision, which radios we want to use, which antennas we want to set up, and where we'll put each station and antenna. Sounds simple, but we need to make the call, as there are some important preparation activities that can't be done right until these decisions are made (antenna measurements/marking, matching rotors/cable to antennas, etc).

If you have any equipment that you plan to have available for field day, please let me know (or come by on Saturday) so we can fine-tune "the plan". We're particularly interested in lining up generators, HF antennas, towers/tower parts, rotors, rotor cables, tables, and tents. I'll put together a summary of what we're aware of so far and put it in the files section of the yahoo page and bring some copies to the gathering.

Hope to see you there!

Great! See ya there.

By the way, if you have any of the following that can be available for
FD, we are in need: generator, heavy duty (10ga or better) AC power
cords, banquet tables, folding chairs for operators (normal metal
folding chairs work fine, the chairs-in-a-bag get very uncomfortable for
operators), larger tents (either for radios or for sleeping). We're not
desperate, so I wouldn't go buy anything, but we can add some
conveniences if we gather enough of the right things.

Do you know of any other contesters who might be interested? We should
have about 20-25 folks available at the site at any time during the
contest, with another 6-8 drop-ins or maybe's. That should give us
plenty to keep up to 4 phone stations and one digital station going full
time, plus GOTA, VHF/UHF, and satellite. Only three of that number are
CW ops, so we could really use some help there if you know any ringers.
:-) Looks like we'll have about 10 folks for Friday setup, and maybe 10
more for Saturday morning, so we should be able to set up enough to
support as many as we have operators for.

Think FD!

Dave
