Ready to Go

Ok, it’s late and nobody will likely see this, but . . .

Got a few things done today.? Since setup can officially begin at 8pm (0000Z Friday), this evening I shot a couple of lines over the trees in the back yard to use for raising antennas.? Still had some daylight, so I put up a 2m antenna we can use for FD (and maybe I’ll leave it up afterwards).? So I will be able to monitor the repeater (147.105) tomorrow.?

Still need to do a bit of work getting the 2m feedline ty-wrapped in place, but it got too dark too fast to finish that.

Tried to get the Winlink message thing working, but I keep getting disconnected before messages are uploaded.? Unless someone else has some ideas tomorrow, I’m sort of done with that.? Can’t seem to figure it out.?

All seems ready to go for setup tomorrow.? I think we’ll be ready in plenty of time to copy bulletins tomorrow evening.? Might even have some time to work on satellite setup and other fun things.

Think FD!

For the rest of y’all not already in, come join us for a while if you can.? What’s not to like?? Play radio, dip in the pool, good beer.? Can’t go wrong here.?

We can fine tune the Saturday schedule Friday afternoon, but plan on 10:00am start, lunch around noon, and begin operating at 2:00pm.?

At the end of operation at 2pm Sunday we’ll break for lunch, and then tear things down.? Tear-down is basically packing everything you brought into your car.? The antennas can stay up and I’ll take care of them later.?

If you plan on spending the night Saturday, let me know.? I have plenty of room, and one air mattress for the first who requests.? Others can bring a sleeping bag and an air mattress, or sleep on a sofa (or hammock if the weather is nice).

I hear ya, but realistically we aren’t going to win this.? It’s a more laid back effort than was typical in the past.?

?

I’m all for putting up a respectable score, but there will only be three of us, with two radios set up for digital, plus the TS-2000 we can use on 6m, HF phone, satellite, and sending message traffic.?

?

If you want a phone station next to a GOTA station, you’re going to have to bring another radio.? ?

?

I did bring a new Yaesu azi-ele rotor back from Dayton.? Got it assembled and cables connected and it’s working OK.? This week I’ll hope to get the computer interface set up and tested as well.? So maybe we can use that for FD.? The only antenna I have is the Arrow, but hopefully we’ll have it pointed in the right direction.? (But just in case, Eddie, you may want to bring your setup as well).

?

Any ideas on something new we can try this year?

We should have plenty of space.?

Margaret is planning to head downtown for a weekend with grandkids, so we’ll have the place to ourselves.?

When the time gets closer we can figure out what we want to throw on the grill for supper Saturday.? I’ll make breakfast on the flat top grill Sunday morning, and something simple (burgers and brats?) at 2pm Sunday when the operating ends.?

For those interested, if you want we can get together at the Wings Café and Tap Room on Roswell Rd about ? of a mile east of the 120 loop.? It’s in the NW corner of the East Lake Shopping Center (there is also a Harbor Freight in the shopping center).

Maybe we can come up with a thing or two to try for the first time?
