That place was conveniently located a couple hours drive from the HQ of National Radio.? One of the pix shows what looks to be some kind of National receiver. There was a bunch of National stuff on display at Bletchley Park when I was?there. Jeff n1kdo On Mon, Sep 19, 2022 at 9:26 AM Tom Crowley <crowleytj@...> wrote:

Re: The Navy-Marine Corps Team Needs Amateur Radio Operators
开云体育I actually ran a watch station at the MARS station at Corey Field in Pensacola. I was the MARS Chief while I was stationed there. When I was transferred to Diego Garcia I found that they revoked my call so I didn’t bother trying to get it back. While at Corey we ran a lot of phone patches for the Ships in the Atlantic, Med, and Indian Oceans. I had operators on every night. For many of them it was their introduction to Ham Radio. ? ? Sent: Tuesday, September 6, 2022 12:38 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [N4N-Field-Day] The Navy-Marine Corps Team Needs Amateur Radio Operators ? Yea, I used to operate the MARS station from Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNN0NYN). Then around 1985 the guy in charge of the MARS station started giving me (and others) a ration of crap for not logging enough hours. It was the solar cycle minimum and bands were often dead. So I told the guy to pound sand and ran phone patches from home on the ham bands when propagation allowed. Kept a schedule with McMurdo Sound until the operator rotated back stateside. Lots of fond memories, especially around Christmas.? ? UW
