Visual Studios HRI version 25 DEC 2016

Hi Everyone,

There is a new Visual Studios HRI version 25 DEC 2016 in the FILES section.

This version introduces a new Radio Emulation feature using a virtual COM port.

I recommend VSPE at which is free if you don't mind a nag-screen every time you start up the virtual com ports (once per computer bootup).

With a VSPE connector virtual COM port - for example COM16, you set HRI settings Radio Emulator to use COM16.

In the amateur radio software (for example FLDIGI) you set it up as Kenwood TS2000 radio on COM16.

Now the amateur radio software treats HRI as a radio - being able to ask or set the frequency, mode, etc.. via commands over COM16.? In addition the commands to transmit are also supported.? Another way to transmit is to raise RTS on COM16.

This feature is very useful for radio models which HRI supports, but the amateur radio software does not support.? THIS IS OF PARTICULAR USEFULNESS FOR THOSE USING ICOM MARINE RADIOS.

Regards,
Howard

Is the? 64 bit VSPE needed for a Windows 7 64 bit Home version?

I think it makes sense to use 64bit software (when available) for a 64bit windows machine.

In the case of device drivers like VSPE it is probably necessary.
