Re: How can I get a trial license for testing on an older IC-M710 with bad display?

Hey Howard,
?
I've used the older version of HRI before, but since my laptops HDD failed, I don't have access to it anymore. I've used EX1726 to enable all features, I do not recall if I need anything more than the 3.5mm programming cable, or do I need to use the DB9 serial connector for connecting with HRI? Can't recall because it has been a long while..

I can't blame you for going in another direction with the software, as someone who used to write software myself. I have no idea if I want to put more money into it, but I at least wanted to give it a try. It seemed like a good alternative for an otherwise working radio.
?
Kind regards,
Ben

Re: How can I get a trial license for testing on an older IC-M710 with bad display?

Ben,
?
I can send you a trial version.
?
However, you also need a special cable made between your M710 radio to the computer.
And you also need to use old ancient dos-style ICOM 710 software to enable features in the radio - to use amateur band frequencies.
?
Do you really want to put money into software for a radio with a bad display ?
How can you effectively use a radio with a bad display ?
?

How can I get a trial license for testing on an older IC-M710 with bad display?

Hello there,

I would like to test the software and see if I can make it work on an older IC-M710 radio. How can this be done?

Re: Thanks for adding me to the group

I have been working on this for quite some time. ?The software and cable are readily available on EBay. ?If you have a serial port on your computer that would be optimal, but if you don¡¯t others have got the usb dongle to work. ?Do a quick google search for M710 programming and you should be good. ?It does take a little trial and error, ?but you can get it.

Re: hrd with the 710RT

I think I misunderstood your question.

Go into HRI settings, to the Radio Emulator Tab.

Enable the Radio Emulator, then select the COM Port and speed for the
VIRTUAL COM port that you previously created with VSPE.

Now you can hopefully use any amateur radio digital mode software - in
that digital software select radio type Kenwood TS2000 and the same VSPE
virtual COM port.? This is to provide PTT via RTS on the Virtual COM port.

You will still need an interface between the radio and the computer to
provide the Input and Output audio devices which your digital software
should use.

Hope this works well for you.

Regards
H

There is only one choice for ICOM marine radios.

In answer to Juan's question:

Ham Radio Integrator (HRI) will no longer be free.
I have not completed code changes for licensing.

People who already have HRI installed on their computer, may continue using it.
However, it should not be installed on any additional computers.
Anyone distributing HRI will be sued.
I wrote HRI, and I control its distribution which has always been the Yahoo and Groups.io websites.

The price will be at least $25 per year.

Digital modes have been removed from HRI.
TheModem software does MT63 and M110A, has its own group, and will cost at least $25 per year.
Government, Corporations, NGOs (like the Red Cross) will pay a higher price.

I know this will disappoint many people.
I thought writing free software would get noticed by potential employers.
However I was wrong.?
Mentioning HRI in interviews, and the people using it all over the world was something hiring managers did not care about at all.

I put a years of work into HRI and TheModem as an unemployed and unappreciated Computer Scientist.
It's time for the few who really appreciate my software, to pay a reasonable yearly fee.

I think most of the blame has been the H1B Visa system started in the 1990s which allowed 50,000 to 75,000 foreign IT workers into the USA for 5 years.? These H1B visa holders do not leave after 5 years, instead they become permanent residents.? There are now over 1,000,000 IT workers in the USA due to the H1B Visa program.? In addition, President Obama allowed them to bring in a spouse who can also work.? So, it might be over 2,000,000.? All these additional computer workers caused many to work in other lower paying fields.

Candidate Trump on a few occasions talked about eliminating or reducing the H1B Visa system.? However he never had enough votes to get passed his agenda for legal and illegal immigration.? Every speech/rally Trump made was to help the working man.? He said what previous politicians had done wrong, and how he would fix it.? All the Trump haters have never watched a single Trump rally speech because the mainstream media suppressed them.? President Trump is the only president in our lifetime who really wants to help the average person - more so than the democrats and the republicans before him.? Half the country got his message, that the Democrats and Republicans have been throwing the working man under the bus for the rich contributors and special interests, and elected him.? The Democrat party lost support of the rust belt and the working (wo)mans' unions.? The other half who voted against him, never heard his speeches. ? He has kept his word, trying his best to fulfill all his campaign promises - first time in our lifetime a President has done this.? I think due to the midterm election results, he will not be able to fulfill any more promises he made despite his best efforts.? Thus I have no hope.

Regards,
Howard

Re: What about M110 and MT63/1000 simultaneous receive ?

One member emailed me that Army MARS is exclusively M110, so this will not be useful.

I think Air Force MARS permits MT63 after M110 fails, but nobody wants to do offline encryption anymore, so when M110 fails, nobody cares.

Personally, when I can't receive a message sent to the Net - and others have already asked for a retransmission, I do not bother to ask for a retransmission -? as more retransmissions will not help.

What about M110 and MT63/1000 simultaneous receive ?

Edited

I am thinking about having an option to simultaneously receive M110 and MT63/1000.

Maybe, if M110 is selected it also listens for MT63/1000 and prints what is received.

Maybe, if MT63/xxxx is selected it also listens for M110 and prints what is received.

This will increase CPU usage.

Will this be useful?

Why people are buying TheModem:

From a Army Mars Region Training Officer wrote:
Well, I was in the computer field and did a lot of programming and systems design.
I¡¯ve been complaining about MS-DMT from the first time I used it.
Aside from it being incredibly unfriendly, it was also crashing or hanging constantly.
Also, as the Training Officer, I was all the trouble people had with it.
Using virtual COM ports to link the programs was another crazy way of doing things
when you could use tcpip like you have done. I¡¯m using your software on my secondary station as I¡¯m using an RM2 modem on my primary MARS station
using Datapoint software. I got so sick of DMT that I just bought a hardware modem over a year ago. I hope that answers your question.

Howard,
I want to congratulate you on your Modem.? I have been able to compare
it side by side with MS-DMT, running two programs at once and your modem performs equally
well if not better with out crashing than MS-DMT, and using TCP instead of virtual comports is great! I'm going to send for two licenses so I can run it on two different computers.
and

Howard,

First a programmer should get something for all their coding.
But the main reason is MS-DMT crashes when you least expect it. Yours doesn't
The virtual com ports are a issue at times. No virtual com ports needed.
TCP Ports make it easier to run V2 Station Manager and V3 programs at the same time.
Like that it switches to same speed received in transmit.
Auto updates.

Just a few reasons why I believe $25.00 was worth it.
