Re: March Meeting Recap followup
开云体育Hi Rizwan, Thanks for the email. Attached are 600 dpi .png files ... one is
a general logo ... the other is the 30 year version. Among Eric's other talents, he is our master of hyperbole ...
(Hyperbole is a figure of speech that involves exaggerated
statements or claims not meant to be taken literally, often
used for emphasis or dramatic effect.). My "World
Headquarters" is a 4000 sqft - farm building with no employees!
Other than the occasional sparrow who manages to take advantage of
an open door, I rarely have any visitors. I can work on putting together a gallery of pictures detailing
the project. The effort it takes to do that, will be worth it to
me as a help to recall things I did in the past whose details I
won't remember in the future. Sometimes I wander around looking
at things I know I did in the past but find it harder and harder
to believe I did them or how. Even in the programming realm, I
still use software I created with VFP 20 years ago and have to
dive into the code to see how I did this or that. Looking at old
code is essentially a 'diary' of our journey to what we do
today. Here's the original pic Eric sent out ... along with another one

Re: March Meeting Recap
Hi Eric and Everyone, March 2025 marks an incredible milestone for our group — 31 years strong! What an achievement to be proud of. I may be living outside the U.S. now, but my connection to this group remains as strong as ever. Even though the time difference means our meetings happen at around 2 a.m. for me, and with work the next morning, I still love hearing about all the amazing activities and camaraderie that keep this community so special. It was exciting to hear about this month's meeting at Jim Tooley's World HQ of Tickets & More. Jim, you are truly a master at what you do! The idea of using your laser to create those beautiful 30-Year anniversary commemorative items is fantastic. I really enjoyed learning about the process — from the test runs to perfecting the power and speed to get the best image. I can only imagine how impressive the final result must be, and please share the original image of this possibly in HD format. As we continue into our 31st year, I have a small request. In April, it would be wonderful to create a video vlog to celebrate this milestone. I’d love to see the original picture of the 30-Year anniversary swag, and it would be even better if our own "Star Wars guy" (the one with the laser beam!) could showcase the process behind it. It would mean a lot to those of us who can't be there in person to witness the magic. Even though I can't attend the meetings physically, the time in my region is always 02:00 am in morning and morning is the working day, I still feel deeply connected to the journey we started back in 1995. It's amazing to reflect on how far we've come and how many memories we've created along the way. Here's to many more years of friendship, innovation, and great memories. Looking forward to seeing what this next year brings! Best regards, Rizwan Hassan? On Wed, 19 Mar 2025 at 19:06, Eric Selje via <eric.selje=[email protected]> wrote:

March Meeting Recap
March 2025 marks the beginning of our 31st year as a group. Quite an accomplishment! Since March 1995, and without missing too many months, we have met on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Somewhere I still have the attendance sheets for those first meetings at the Federal Courthouse in downtown Madison, where coincidentally I still work today after a few forays elsewhere. Our meeting this month was actually at Jim Tooley's World HQ of Tickets & More. Jim is the leading producer of legal raffle tickets. He's so efficient you cannot beat his prices. But the main reason we met there is because Jim owns a beautiful laser which he's using to generate some beautiful commemorative 30 Year anniversary swag. He demonstrated how he split the design to do 5 test runs on his laser to find the power and speed that produced the best image on the medium. Here is the result, which can be turned into everything from coasters to commemorative coins to wall plaques (probably). See you in April for our 31st years' commencement! Eric |

Re: February Recap
开云体育OK, I will have to say that the CoPilot attempt at a secure Node Express server handling multiple apps was spot on, including certs & keys - would need some flushing out, but it was clean, concise, and would work right out of the box. Perhaps with more iterations and refinements it would do everything you might want. We didn't have time to try something like proxying - I like to do
this with CouchDB so that it is being served locally and not
accessible from outside. Or maybe setting up logging. These are
cleanly done in node and maybe CoPilot could handle this 'No
Problemo'. HOWEVER, I think that most Angular developers would be
disappointed with the result. The code really didn't follow normal
structure, also had wierd stuff stuck here and there and would
need a lot of scrutiny and fixing to be comfortable with it.
Angular's scaffolding generates a clean app and generating
components, directives, and services is pretty simple. The CouchDB
service was bare, just returning observables and did not handle
errors. We did ask it to have the db service return promises
instead of observables, but it croaked on this. I would say that
we are not CoPilot experts in the least and a lot of study and
testing might improve our result but it might be easier to just
use Angular's toolset and do the app. We also had trouble getting front-end output to conform to
material design and I think it should really understand this. We didn't ask for a complex app and maybe I'll play with this and see how it handles an app with routing containing child routes and how well it does separating state into some service and how well it deals with signal(), effect(), and model() and how it handles passing data between components (when I get some time...). So using CoPilot one can code using normal english but when it
comes to classes, interfaces, front-end presentation, logic, etc -
you still have to SAY IT with enough exact precision to get a
result - why not just code it. If someone has time, see how it
handles a rust app, I'd be very interested... I guess I don't see this getting rid of ER, DFD & state
diagrams or somehow eliminating the tough work of getting an app
out of design. This is a somewhat scary tool - just watch the movie 'Wall.e' to
see what we might become...! Anyway, was a good meeting and the 'Chicago Dog' was fine indeed
(really was COLD though)... On 2/19/25 10:53 AM, Eric Selje via

February Recap
Despite the frigid Wisconsin cold, we had a good meeting last night.? I demonstrated VS Code's new CoPilot features. To test it we asked the AI to create an angular app from scratch w/ some special attributes, including connecting to a CouchDB server. It took a few refinements to get a result that we liked, and Cliff is convinced he could have cranked one out quicker with the command line but that's because he's an experienced Angular dev. I know I couldn't have.? We also had it create a simple multi-app node.js application, which it scaffolded quite nicely. We tested a few iterations of code edits, accepting or rejecting its suggestions. Overall a very impressive beginning to what will certainly revolutionize coding. We've already heard that there are companies who are no longer hiring junior devs, as a senior dev embellished with these AI tools are more productive. It's an interesting time to be starting your developer career. Afterwards we drove down to Hot Dog Avenue for some Chicago dogs and more. I still have heartburn from the chili. See ya next month, in what will be the beginning of our 31st year! Eric |
