check out this one, too:

The last time I downloaded the trial (about a year

Re: Fox Thoughts
Einar Kvandahl
开云体育Just to add on to Eric's email. There is a great book from
Hentzenwerke called: ".Net for VFP developers". This book is a great
introduction book for .NET and is written by a VFP guru. The author seems to
favor C# and says that C# is probably the best choice for VFP developers, but he
compares C# and VB.NET objectively.
?
Also there is a toolkit, Visual Fox Pro toolkit for .NET,
?available for download from
The toolkit includes a lot of the good ol' foxpro functions
and commands and is a great starting point if you want to get into
.NET.

Fox Thoughts
Eric Selje
开云体育Hi All,Ever since I've been down here, I haven't been doing much FoxPro coding.? In fact some of the only fox code I've written down here was an effort to separate some tiers of an internet applicaton, and I actually removed some VFP code in favor of XSLT.? I've also used a lot of PERL, some Java, and much XSLT. This effort is wrapping up and I'm attempting reintegrate myself with VFP.? It's a lot like putting on your favorite sandals after a night out dancing in uncomfortable new shoes. Here's a few thoughts I've been having.? Please comment on them: - I wondered while I was away whether the whole world abandoned Fox.? You don't come across information about it casually, but as I've gone out looking it's reassuring to see that in fact it looks about as strong as ever (fwiw).?? The success of the WinE project won't guarantee VFP's future, however.? In my opinion, VFP will at some point have to be spun off either as an open-source project (unlikely) or sold to another developer if it ever wants to flourish as it once has.? Otherwise it will languish in its current role as the tool for enthusiasts and a necessary evil for those supporting legacy apps, but won't be picked up by newbies when they can use PHP/MySQL to write good enough apps.? Too bad, they'll never know how good they could have had it.? Efforts to kindle VFP with either WinE or, even better, an open-source clone of VFP will be interesting but ultimately unsuccessful.? I love the possible irony of an open-source clone sending Microsoft the way of Ashton-Tate. - It was interesting to read about the demise and rebirth of FoxTalk magazine.? It looks like they're going to reduce their subscription price, which is great, and also get some content from Microsoft itself. - There won't be any more Great Lakes Great Database Workshops (aka WhilFests), at least in their present form.? What conferences are you planning on going to?? With VFP 9 due out in the 2nd half of 2004, now would be a great time to get back to a conference.? I missed VFP8s' conferences and was thus unaware of the great ACTIVATE WINDOW puzzle command! - The VFP team is blogging.? Check out .? It could also be retrieved as an RSS feed, which means we could add their blogs to our madfox.info site or even the VFP Toolbox.? Anybody done much tweaking of the toolbox? That's all for now.? 开云体育Also, you may want to confirm that any existence of FOXUSER.dbf and FOXUSER.fpt are not read only on the server.? (check the entire server - temp directories, etc).? Plus, try just deleting those files - the app will recreate them.

doing something. It seems like you're going to have to figure out just what that something is, then determine how to fix it. You say there's no READ EVENTS involved, so it seems like it's either waiting for input into the dialog box, which for some reason isn't made visible, or it's stuck in an infinite loop during the data import routine. This would be easy to figure out if you could reproduce the problem on your machine, but it gets to be a PITA when it only happens on a remote site, without the Debugger available, depending on the customer to tell you what's going on, etc. One thing I've found invaluable in such situations is to include a Trace method in my apps which includes code like this: lcFile = 'DEBUG'+RIGHT(DTOS(DATE()),4)+'.TXT' lcText = TIME(1)+' '+TRANSFORM(PROGRAM(PROGRAM(-1)-1))+' '+lcText STRTOFILE(lcText+CR,lcFile,.T.) lcText is passed in as a parameter I scatter calls to this a crucial points thruout the program, trying to include helpful notes (including variable values) in the parameter string. I then tell the user to run it to reproduce the problem and have them send me the resulting DEBUGxxxxx.TXT file. Typical output might look like this: 01:12:24.25 ACECODECLASS.ECHANDLER register button clicked 01:12:24.26 ACECODECLASS.REGINIT Initializing. UserID=XX0000098 Etc. In your case, you could stick in some strategic calls like this: Trace("Ready to starting input routine...") ... Trace("Input file opened.") ... Trace("Data has been imported.") ... Trace("Ready to show dialog") nResult = MESSAGEBOX(...) or however you do this Trace("Done with dialog. Result="+TRANSFORM(nResult) Etc etc.... Looking at the trace output should at least let you know what point in the program to focus on. If it gets to "ready to show dialog" and stops, you'll know that it's a dialog display issue. Or you may end up rethinking your statement that the data is not an issue... --stein Stein Goering Arbutus Computer Services 17494 Merry Hill Rd Richland Center, WI 53581 608.538.3820 -----Original Message-----

Do you have to call the Refresh() method?
Visual FoxPro Language Reference REFRESH( ) FunctionSee Also CREATE SQL VIEW | CURSORGETPROP( ) | CURSORSETPROP( ) Refreshes data in an updatable SQL view. REFRESH([nRecords [, nRecordOffset]] [, cTableAlias | nWorkArea]) I was thinking there'd be a property of the view to auto-refresh every, say, x seconds, but I don't see anything like that. Eric |
