Mach3 Plasma

I recently attached by plasma torch to my milling machine.
?
I am using the basic Mill profile And post processing my fusion 360 plasma cutter paths with the MACH3 plasma post processor within fusion 360.?

Going this route I am using a lot of consumables on the plasma torch.?

I¡¯m interested in using the MACH3 plasma profile With the torch height control, ?THC, Provisions.
?
Can someone point me in the right direction to get this set up??
thank you,
Chuck

Hello Chuck, I have been using mach3 for many years on my 9' x 23' plasma table and basically what you're trying to do requires that you use a plasma post processor with THC. That is where your THC is going to be initiated in the output G-Code and then ran in the plasma screen set that interact with your THC controller. The other part of the THC is a Plasma Cutter with torch active/ volts or adding this option through the installation of an Amp coil. You need to check with your plasma manufacturer for this option on your model or get one from the manufacturer of your THC controller that you will be using. Hope this helps.

Chuck, in my opinion your post processor is at the core of any work done by CNC. I used the MP1000¨C THC for my post processor initially and then edited it for the laser, scribe, plasma, and the oxy acetylene torch that is on the table. I also made descriptions in my output file and put in cut sequence numbers so I can start stop or correct anywhere in a job. I will post a picture of the g code... a proficient working knowledge of Lua is very helpful.

Hi Stan,

I understand what you¡¯re saying.?

I just ordered a THC module from Cnc4PC.com, model THC-2.

??It¡¯s compatible with the artsoft Mach3 plasma post processor. ?

Unfortunately I have no LUA Knowledge.?

Thanks,
Chuck

I will be using the ¡°THC ¨C2¡± Controller from cnc4pc.com

I simply built a quick release adapter to hold my plasma torch on my 15 x 30¡± travel milling machine.

This machine also has a 180 W CO2 laser attached to it, so it¡¯s an all purpose milling, laser cutting, plasma cutting machine for relatively small parts.

I would like to compare it to the post processed G code using the Artsoft Plasma post processor.
Thanks,

Chuck, in my opinion your post processor is at the core of any work done by CNC. I used the MP1000¨C THC for my post processor initially and then edited it for the laser, scribe, plasma, and the oxy acetylene torch that is on the table. I also made descriptions in my output file and put in cut sequence numbers so I can start stop or correct anywhere in a job. I will post a picture of the g code... a proficient working knowledge of Lua is very helpful.

I recently attached by plasma torch to my milling machine.

I am using the basic Mill profile And post processing my fusion 360 plasma cutter paths with the MACH3 plasma post processor within fusion 360.

Going this route I am using a lot of consumables on the plasma torch.

I¡¯m interested in using the MACH3 plasma profile With the torch height control, THC, Provisions.

Can someone point me in the right direction to get this set up?
thank you,

What is the 180 watt laser capable of? How about a link to the one you have and know works. I have been tempted but don't want to waste a lot of time on something that be garbage.

I simply built a quick release adapter to hold my plasma torch on my 15 x 30¡± travel milling machine.

This machine also has a 180 W CO2 laser attached to it, so it¡¯s an all purpose milling, laser cutting, plasma cutting machine for relatively small parts.

Hmmm - - - which THC system did you install?

Would also be curious as to the actual plasma system your working with.

(I really want a decent sized plasma torch and buying a system from
the big boys is out of reach ($$$$$) - - - so wondering - - - )

Spenser,

On a single pass, I have cut three-quarter inch MDF at 14 in./min. using about 80% laser power.

I can cut 1/4 inch plywood at 40 inches per minute using 80% power.

Search Amazon for RECI W8 150-180W co2 laser for the tube I used.

There are a lot of less expensive tubes out there but the quality is nowhere near RECI quality.

Have fun,
Chuck
