As the product announcement said, the PMDX-411 is for use with Mach4.

We have several more projects related to Mach4 in process and will not
have time to consider support for Mach3 until late fall, if then. We will
have to see what happens.

Hi, does The PMDX-411 work with any versions of mach3?

You will have to stay tuned for the results on that one.....

We did use different USB inteface silicon (not FTDI) than is in the SmoothStepper-USB
and provided ESD protection and common-mode noise filtering, but it is too soon to
claim victory. So far we have no reports of problems, but there are less than 100 units
in the field.

Re: Dolphin Partsmaster Question? "better than dolphin program for mill"

Don -

What are you using for the mill?

I saw a note from you to the list 21 Sept 2014 that said
I use Aspire and Deskproto. Aspire works great and is very easy to use but is both Cad & Cam. Deskproto to is just Cam but is the best 4th axis software for the money. Deskproto has a hobby version that is the full blown multi axis version just no phone support. I also use dolphincadcam but it doesn't have the features of Aspire or Deskproto.

Is that it or has your thinking "evolved" since then? Versions?

I have an oddball CAD program (haven't checked quality of DFXs), and plan to use the NewFangled Mill Wizard and CAMBAM.?

Thanks.

Re: offsets

i think i have a simple way to achieve what i need to do. i will give a description of what seems to work. i know there are some bad things i am doing so hopefully some of these can be improved upon.

i turned off the limit switches which scares me a little but i am going to try to figure out soft limits that protect the machine from crashing. this will take me a little time to configure because of the offsets i am using and i'm sure that will complicate things.

i jog the machine to the home position. i am using a strange coordinate system because i want the reference a particular point on the raw material and this makes the Y axis backwards. makes things a little difficult to conceptualize but i am sticking with this for now.

after jogging, i zero each axis and then reference home which does not cause any machine motion because the limit switches are disabled.

i put the Y offset i want in G55 (or whatever) and then select this in the offset screen. seems to do just what i want.

the only improvement i need to make other than eventually converting to a more understandable coordinate system (it works no so i am leaving it for now) would be to add buttons to increment and decrement the offset in G55 by .01" instead of having to enter the value in the offset table.

i think i can use a system variable (or whatever it is called) to hold the offset i need and to increment or decrement this each time the up or down script is run and then send a G55 with the offset value pulled from the variable. i have virtually no experience with VBscript (i am a perl and C programmer) so if anyone could provide an example of something close to what i need it would really help me figure this out. i need two scripts one for up and one for down. each needs to increment or decrement the value that will be put in the G55 code instruction.

i watched the (very good) video on homing offsets etc and now sort of understand how the coordinate systems and offsets work.
i am using material that can vary in thickness and need to center all the features in the Y axis. my currently working gcode uses G52 offsets and puts all the individual features in the right place other than the fact that the Y might need to be changed a little to account for a change in thickness.

if i am the only one operating the machine i can probably figure out how to jog to a particular point and edit or 0 the Y axis to make these adjustments. however i really want to be able to set up some buttons that allow the user to nudge the Y coordinates a little (probably in increments of .01")?

any idea on how to do this? i imagine it can be done with a vbscript run from the plus and minus nudge buttons but am not sure what value i need to modify. shouldn't i be able to write a simple macro that increments or decrements some Y offset value? i think i might be able to figure out how to do this if there is a vbscript for jogging that i can steal code from?

When you zero the axis, you are setting a work offset for the current coordinate system. If the current coordinate system is G54, then zeroing the axis is equal to setting your G54 offsets.

New product! The PMDX-411 squeezes a SmartBOB-USB inside the connector shell of a male DB-25 plug.

Now you can instantly convert most parallel port devices into a USB device controlled by Mach4.

The PMDX-411 is available now and costs $119 by itself or $309 in a bundle with Mach4Hobby.

See details here:

Partmaster only imports 2D DXF files, they must be lines and arcs, not
nurbs. If Inkscape has the option export to Autocad V12 format.

I use partmaster and have found it pretty reasonable

Relatively easy to use once you get used to the interface and pretty accurate for lathe work.

I use Turbocad as my main CAD system and pull the DVF files from that into Dolphin

?

No problems here with it.

Re: offsets

i used to parametrically program (by hand at the control, command by command- boring) quite a few parts like this on an old biesse router.
i found the best way was to program in incremental mode from my zero point
that way i could set zero wherever i wanted and run the code (in my case a subroutine for a feature)?
move the zero re run the part feature etc.

i still use this method with some features as the feature is made of different heights, pockets, lines, etc which in cam would be spat out as one feature after another with z retract moves etc which i dont need

in mach i use g10 to set the x y cordinates of zero?
