Hi

Dear All,
Just got my own internet back. Came across this dating/penpal website:
jail babes.com
You'd have to sleep with one eye open wouldn't you?
LOL

I don’t think you’d call that a dating site, John.

Be very wary if you are looking at dating sites. ?Some are quite predatory, as I know to my cost when my mother decided to try some. ?It took me a while to undo some of their hooks.

Sorry to hear that Chris. I guess behind ?every attempt at light humour there is a tragic story. To be honest, I tend to keep my own company, these days. I'm sorry, the kind of girls I go for are the Susie's & Jude's of this world. I have had enough trouble for 5 lifetimes
I have just been trying to let my hair down after getting away from the Escobars at my last address. It was hell.

Dear All,
I downloaded the latest version of drive genius (as recommended) by Harvey. It says:
"Please unlock the privacy pane by clicking the lock icon in System Preferences (ok), then drag and drop the applications above into the "Full Disk Access" list. Well I can't seem to carry out the second part for love nor money.
Any tips anyone?

I’ve downloaded documents & moved them to desktop folder. How do I remove the icons from the dock, as my applications are microscopic icons now

John

Try clicking on the + sign below the list in the right hand pane and finding the applications to add to the Full Disk Access list – having first selected Full Disk Access, of course.

I’m not an expert, though; I have alway followed the instructions to make this thing work.

I can’t think why they’re in the Dock, unless they’re in your Downloads folder still – you’ve only copied them to the Desktop. If that’s the case, delete them.

It’s not good practice to keep too many files on your Desktop, as I understand it.

They aren’t showing up in the downloads folder. I copied them to another folder on the desktop, but they remain in the dock

To remove icons from the dock just click and drag them off and they make a puff of smoke and disappear.

You should be filing in your documents folder - if you keep too much on desktop just slows the Mac enormously and makes start ups slow.

You can alter your dock icons size and behaviours under sys prefs.

You should have a “Downloads”alias folder on the far right of your dock which is linked to Downloads folder in home folder where the downloaded items actually reside.

Single icons of your downloads shouldn’t really be taking up your dock real estate.

Dear Jude,
For some strange reason, Mojave OS? It wouldn’t let me do that, but I found if I opened quick time player & went to file, I could move it to desktop & then to trash. Chris said something similar about using the desktop, but every 48 hours or so I transfer to External HD. I’ll work on that tomorrow. Getting internet working was last 24 hrs job. I also have 256 GB flash drive where I can temporarilystore things, so no sweat

I preferred it when I could "physically" see my HD. I mean who's in charge me or the computer?
That's true with a lot of tech to day. You put a double A4 book on the photocopier & it says I'll give you an A3 copy. Type a letter & the paper clip pops up, I'm in control!
You're probably thinking I'm going "loony tune" but there is a serious side to this:

As Chris can tell you better than I
Not that the computer is bad, but it was programmed by some guy not on the frontline. The human must be able to take control

Holding down the Command Key while dragging things worked on my husband’s laptop with Mojave. I’ve not had to do that on my iMac Pro but I have no idea why that is so. The PB now currently is running Catalina and that seems to run better on Pete’s machine - I’ve had less calls for help from him at any rate :-) The Downloads folder works differently on his PB than my iMac. I can instantly find most recent downloads via my alias on my Dock, but he can never seem to find anything so when I airdrop to him 9 times out of 10 I then have to go find it when it eludes him. Reminder to self to sort that out :-)

Dear all,
I was able to start up my old iMac from an external drive for a while. I’ve been trying to do internet recovery for a while, but I just get a spinning earth for hours. Obviously the Internal HD has had it, but it has a superdrive, 4 good cores & sockets for thunderbolt 1, so if I could resurrect it, it would be helpful. Any suggestions anyone?
TY John
