I got spotlight to rescan the whole drive. Helped a little not much. Basically its not like how it used to be. Part of this I think is my own fault in that in some cases I have buried files too deep

on older Macs Drop Copy works between Macs on network. I use the usual airdrop between the modern Macs but the old iMac I use DropCopy. I don¡¯t use iCloud at all except its backing up the new iPad
