Request brief well-wishes for Rick!
Hi Resto Crew,
As you may or may not have heard, our good friend, longtime NPS liaison and now-retired Mammoth Cave Park Ecologist, Rick Olson, underwent surgery last week to remove a polyp on his lung. Brian and I spoke by phone Thursday evening with Rick, who was recovering at a post-surgery facility. Rick said his surgery was deemed 'successful,' however the pathology report (up to 2 weeks from now) would tell more. He was jovial, as always, and was looking forward to being released and back at his home this weekend. In the meantime, to cheer Rick's spirits and aid his recovery, I'd urge everyone reading this to reply with a one- or two-sentence sentiment, which I will condense into one email message and send to him. Here's mine: Rick, here's wishing you a speedy recovery. We're all pulling for you! -GaryG |

Re: Old Resto Crew video from the 1990s!
Hi Linda. Nice to hear from you. Just today, I saw Gary's video on the resto camp, and you had a spot on there. It's good to see you're still at it. You and Larry were essential to the early years of the camp! It was great working with you. Do the Indiana cavers still have the Luuuuuuuuve room at Maple Springs??

Re: Old Resto Crew video from the 1990s!
Hi Pam and everybody else on the group. You're probably wondering where Norm's been all these years. The truth is,? I been living in a small room in Gary's basement where, once a day, he slides a couple of dried biscuits and a dish of water under the door.? He finally let me out, and I decided to re-connect with the caving community.
Thank you all for keeping this camp alive. I'm sure it's project without peers! For those who know me, Chris and I are doing well up here in Minnesota. |

Old Resto Crew video from the 1990s!
Before Brian, the previous Resto Crew Director was Bill Copeland, who was preceded by Roy VanHooser.
The Resto effort began as a pre-Convention activity in 1989. Beginning the following year, it was Norm Rogers (preceding Roy) who organized and supervised Resto efforts, including the dismantling of the Echo River wooden pier. We're pleased to announce that Norm has found and subscribed to our current chat group (on the Groups.io platform), which succeeds the former YahooGroup, which Yahoo dissolved a few years ago. Many current Resto cavers like Pam, Linda/Larry, Roy and Rick Olson of course remember Norm --who today emailed me a link to a NBC news interview and report on the Echo River project: As I mentioned, Norm is currently signed-on to the Resto Group, so feel free to reply with a message to our de-facto founder... just to say 'hi', thank you and/or maybe invite him to come join us again. We'd love to all meet you, Norm! On behalf of all of us, thank you Norm! -GG PS - Compare that historic video with the one created by Brian and yours truly a couple years ago: |
