Re: Issue with Outlook-365, JAWS and Windows-11

I actually find it more annoying when things like this are posted on screen-reader lists. This has absolutely nothing to do with JAWS. It's an Outlook problem. I wish moderators of screen-reader lists would take action to stop people posting things that are not about the screen-readers. This is the correct group for problems to do with Outlook.

Janet,
?
Since Ann has not replied, I'll jump in.? What she mentioned applies only to Microsoft Word and its save functionality, at least as written, which is using Alt + F, T, S, to get to the Word Options Save pane, and then checking the checkbox for "Save to computer by default."
?
When you go to save an attachment or attachments in a message, you should get the standard "Save As" dialog for individual messages, where you pick the Save location, and if you choose to Save All Attachments, you get what is essentially a modified Save As dialog after a dialog that presents you with a short list of all the attachments on the message.? You have to pick the folder where you want all the attachments saved or create a new one where they will be placed.

In word, go to options (ALT+f, then T, then s) Tab to "save to computer by default" and be sure it is checked.

Janet and anyone else who wishes to respond to the original question:? It's perfectly fine to do so.? ?Had I not brought up that the message was cross-posted, you'd never have known.
?
The answers given in both venues have quite a bit of overlap, but there are some that are unique to each venue.? That's one of the reasons that when cross-posting is done, that the person doing it designate which of the topics on which of the forums should be "the master topic" for replies.? That way everyone knows what everyone else has said.
?
I'm just trying to discourage cross-posting, generally, and saying when it's done it should be done "the right way."? That places no restrictions on those providing answers, only those asking the questions.

Hi John,

?

Yes, I had this same problem with getting the pesty message Map Network Drive, but I still couldn’t save my attachments like you say you could.

So now, what I do when I want to save an attachment is to just open the email, control plus shift to the attachment I want to save, and press control plus space bar to select it, and I then press control plus c to copy, and move to the folder where I want to save the attachment, and press control plus v to paste the attachment in the folder.

Just remember when you press the control plus space bar to select, Jaws 2025 will not say selected, or at least that is how it is on my Windows 11 24h1 Laptop, although, it might be different on your Computer.

I have to admit I am getting so tired of all these different Outlooks MS has been putting out lately.?

But yet, I do have to admit I do like the option to just select ?and copy the attachment or the email and place it into any folder. ?

I also like when I want to save the entire email with the attachment I can press the context key arrow up or down a couple of times, until I hear copy email to the clip board I then press enter on that, and I then go to any folder I want to place the email into.

Please don’t ask me if I am using the MS 365? Outlook Classic or the new Outlook, as I will need to look into that now.

MS drives me nuts with all these different Outlooks, some times people don’t even realize which Outlook they are using.

I would recommend doing the following:

1. ?Open File Explorer and navigate to the folder you desire.
2. ?In the message, shift tab to your attachments and press CTRL + A.
3. ?Alt + Tab to the file explorer window and press CTRL + V.

You'll be a happy camper because you'll find your attachments sitting in that folder. ?I usually keep a file cxplorer window open no matter what I do, but especially when I am looking at email.

Hope this helps.

Your request assumes that the market places where the questions are asked are filled with duplicity.

?

what I used to do is just stay in the inbox and hit control plus E. then my curser would always land in the search field.

I have no idea if this willhelp but those are my observations.

Thanks and happy Friday.

On the topic: has anybody else found searching in Outlook inconsistent? No matter if I use control plus e or alt+q, sometimes it decides to create a new message and sometimes my focus lands somewhere in the ribbons. I’d say less than half the time my curser does land in a search field. In my work I need to do these searches a lot and it feels like at one time it was a lot easier and more consistent than it has been for the last couple of years. If anybody has advise or tips to improve this process for me, I’d deeply appreciate it!

Thanks
