Re: Computer Specs and JAWS Performance
Joe,
?
Your post is not on-topic here, but I will give a brief answer before locking the topic.
?
1. Outlook Classic has been problematic for years now, for a ton of different reasons, with some having no issues at all while others seem to get bogged down in every possible issue it can have.
?
2. A 9-year-old computer is ancient by any meaningful measure.? A new computer at this point, unless you were to buy what I'll call a Walmart special, will have processor specs massively better than what was available a decade ago.? It will also most likely have an SSD rather than a spinning HDD, which makes a huge performance difference.? You need not have anything near to a top of the line computer to have perfectly reasonable performance using any screen reader.? But stick with mid-grade and above, and that can include off-lease refurbished business-class machines.
?
3. These days my minimum RAM recommendation (which tends to be pretty sufficient for most common uses) is 16GB.
?
This topic is now locked.

Computer Specs and JAWS Performance
开云体育I’m encountering an issue where JAWS is performing poorly at reading emails in Outlook Classic. Granted, this is an older computer running Windows 10. The specs of 2017 were not what the best specs are today, but to what extent does processor muscle power affect JAWS efficiency? I read somewhere that processors should not matter, and yet, I can’t help but feel as though there must be some relevance. At the moment, I am only noticing sluggish behavior in Outlook, but there are occasional moments when I’ll see the sluggish behavior in other applications in the Office suite. As I look to finally replace my nearly nine-year-old laptop, to what extent should I be conscious of the processor and RAM specs? ? Thanks in advance, ? Re: Downgrading to M365 Personal or Family Classic
Diana,
?
Thanks for your thanks.? I am trying these days to write a number of tutorials/step-by-step instruction sets with both a blind/VI and sighted audience in mind.? I expect that the sighted will understand "activate" as click on just as I expect that the blind/VI population should know that, in a set of instructions written for the sighted, that click or double click translates to "gain focus upon and activate."
?
I also know that many individuals who are blind or VI have sighted spouses who may (or may not) be assisting and who like to be able to pass this sort of stuff along to someone who can see, and having that person be able to understand "what's what" every bit as easily as they have.? For the sighted, a picture (screenshot, in this case), is truly more helpful than the "thousand words" that follow without it.? The two marry into something that's more than the sum of the parts.

Then, after the list of services that go with the non-AI version, is a Switch Plan button which, if activated, would keep me on the Classic level when my renewal date arrives, leaving my current services unchanged. ? There is a third box, with no yellow banner, that reads Microsoft 365 Personal, $99.99/year, that is about the "with AI" version of M365 Personal.?
