I don¡¯t have this problem myself. In the case where you¡¯re using alt+q and ending up in the ribbon, it sounds like the system is thinking your hitting the alt key and
then hitting the q key. You might try making sure you¡¯re holding both keys down at the same time to see if that helps.

On the topic: has anybody else found searching in Outlook inconsistent? No matter if I use control plus e or
alt+q, sometimes it decides to create a new message and sometimes my focus lands somewhere in the ribbons. I¡¯d say less than half the time my curser does land in a search field. In my work I need to do
these searches a lot and it feels like at one time it was a lot easier and more consistent than it has been for the last couple of years. If anybody has advise or tips to improve this process for me, I¡¯d deeply appreciate it!
