Hi Bordodynov,

Thank you for your model of MC34074P. We have been using thousands of the MC33074 and MC33072 in our boards.? I designed the old school way of actual breadboarding and pcb proto before launching to final production. I just started LTSpice 3 mos ago as I just came accross it by accident through ready to test simulations of LT smps ic's. We use also a lot of LT and AD devices by the way. I found your MC34074P?(which is same family as MC33074/2/1) then in the LTspice Yahoo files, but I didn't know how to make use of it. Now I was already able to add it to my library and actually start simulating with it.?

Thanks to Andy for patiently tutoring me.?

Appreciate also all the hard work Helmut has been throwing in to make such a hugh volume of achives available to the community especially the newbies.

Best regards,

Eric

When you joined this group, you read about the "Table of Contents" file (all_files.htm), which led you to the CD4060 model and symbol.? How did that work out for you?

Sorry, I can't help you with the CD4063.

Re: LTSpice Model for Photo Triac - VOM160

Hi Andy,
I like your suggestion. So now my backgound is dark gray! I'm ok with seeing the icons. So no problem whatever my default settings are.

Hi Bordodynov,
I have used another of your models. I have opened a new topic for it.

Thanks and best regards,
Eric

Eric, I imagine that the Chrome browser you use probably does the same thing as Windows Explorer: it displays the icon that Windows passes it, just the same as Windows Explorer does.

I've read that some web browsers change the filenames of some files when they downloaded them (by adding ".txt" for example to the end of the file).? I guess they probably do that to make it easier for you to open a text file even if the file you downloaded didn't already have a ".txt" on its filename.? I don't know if it's a setting you can change.? But not all web browsers do that.

Regarding the waveform plot colors, yes, a number of us change our color settings.? Me, I also find the blue waveform to be close to invisible on the black background, so I've always set my LTspice waveform colors differently.? What I do even differently from you, is to use a white (or very light grey) background.? I'm not the only one doing that.? I am not sure why I like dark waveforms on a light background, because oscilloscopes didn't do that; but I find it more pleasing to my eye.

Andy

Also, sometimes when I came cross the streets, I saw some ignorant little boys playing and sitting fat men aside , I always hope/remind myself, I should fulfill my mind soul, brain more, such that I could admire the life, instead of the eternity boring, collapse, when seeing all this.

So, how about do me a favor, help delight me more, the SPICE modeling.....

Thank you very much.

Re: introduction of a new vacuum tube spice model approach

Hi analogspiceman

A comparison is good idea - here it is.

As supposed, the two other models (Koren and Rydel) found here are not able to describe the "Anlauf" current. Also, the contact voltage seams to be just some mV, way off reality...
Furthermore, the Rydel model's gm factor is a hole decade to low - not recommendable for use!

Re: Adjusting Bode plot phase

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I have read the paper, and I recommend reading it, as it is very well written and fairly easy to understand. I agree with Andy that the voltage source should be applied at the left end of the line, not from one end to the other. One of the few faults in the paper is that it doesn't show the source in several cases; I suspect that for some of the models that the authors do not like the source should be a current source.

Distributed RC lines are quite interesting; they can even be used as tuned circuits.

I use chrome browser. Also I don't do any settings change on my laptop especially regarding downloads. I'm not good at it and afraid something wrong might happen. I just use default settings.

Anyway thank you once again!. I'm learning quite a lot browsing thru the LTSpice Help Menu.?

Now I found that the colors of the waveform plots can actually be altered to your liking especially the dark blue ones that could barely be seen on black screen background.?
So I got them in pink, yellow, white, etc. , for easier visibility :).

Eric, I still don't see a "2 input and gate" in a drawing or a filename, so I'm not sure what you were talking about.? I don't see "NPN bjt transistor" before filenames either.? I don't know where you are looking when you see that.? Oh well.

Any symbol file (any filename ending in .ASY, if it came from LTspice) can be put into the "sym" directory.

? ? "Bordodynov's file name has "..asy" after it but no "and gate" or "npn" drawing icon before it so I'm not sure where to save that kind of file."

Wait -- now I might understand what you mean.? Are you talking about the icons that you see in Windows Explorer?? Ah-ha!? (Light turns on in head.)

When Windows sees a filename ending in ".asc", it uses the icon for an LTspice schematic file, which is a tiny transistor symbol.? When Windows sees a filename ending in ".asy", it uses the icon for an LTspice symbol file, which is the AND gate.? This must be what you're talking about, right?? These icons are put there by Microsoft Windows, based only on the filename's extension.? So when Bordodynov's file didn't have the AND gate icon in Windows on your computer, that meant its filename did not really end in ".asy".

And -- here's the thing -- that probably means that you have your computer set up to "Hide extensions for known file types".? Bordodynov's file, when it was downloaded to your computer, probably picked up a ".txt" extension (from your web browser), so it was saved as "MOC3083.asy.txt", but Windows hid the ".txt" from you so it looked like "MOC3083.asy".? But that was not the real filename.? In my opinion, this is a really bad feature of Microsoft Windows!? You can disable it by opening Windows Explorer and going to Tools > Folder Options > View, then UN-check "Hide extensions for known file types".? In my opinion, having it checked is dangerous, for all but the casual PC users who don't want to know what filenames mean.

If this is what happened, then you should rename Bordodynov's symbol file to get rid of the ".txt" extension.? LTspice wouldn't see it as a valid symbol file unless it really ends in ".asy".

Andy

Re: Adjusting Bode plot phase

Hello Jerry,

LTspice can plot Bode, Nyquist and Cartesian. Due to the range of 10kOhm down to 0.1mOhm for Z, it doesn't make sense to make a Nyquist-plot. Bode or Cartesian looks more readable for plotting Z with this circuit.

Re: Adjusting Bode plot phase

Hi Helmut,

I downloaded the file and the Bode plot of V(z) matches the paper.

I wish to generate the EIS spectrum of the ladder and produce a Nyquist plot.? The plot should start as a straight line of unit slope in the high frequency region and then trend to a semi-circle in the low frequency domain.? When I hook the sine-wave source across the ends as I had done in the original circuit and plot V(N002)/I(R11) I obtain this type of behavior, but I am not certain that I can use the input voltage and the output current for this analysis.? Your thoughts will be appreciated.

Re: Problem description with ADG511 switch

Hi Helmut,

Thanks a lot for pointing out the issue and the schematic example. I could never find it out by myself. As a newbie, I was having issues converting the subcircuit to a symbol too. Also thanks for the GNUplot script, which I don't know how to use at this point but will dig into it definitely.

From the subcircuit description of the switch, I could feel something fishy is going on with pin 12, so I connected it to GND once but no luck. I'm glad I didn't solve it myself otherwise I wouldn't find this group out. Such an active community full of experts!

Thanks again. I'll reach out if I have any issue in future for sure.

Naim
P.S. You're correct that they've made the same mistake in all the variants of the switches. I'll inform ADI about that.

Hello Naim,

Hello Naim,
I have checked your uploaded netlist.

This model requires a logic supply voltage VL (pin 12) connected to Vdd. It's a mistake from ADI when they made this subcircuit. This pin is NC on the real IC. Especially older analog-switch ICs required? this VL for the internal logic circuit of the IC, but not ADG511, ADG512, ADG513.

Required change of X1
X1 IN1 D1 S1 Vss 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Vdd Vdd 0 0 0 ADG511¡À5 ; using switch 1 only, VL connected!

The ADG511 switches will be on, if IN1 is 0V.
If you want it in on-state, then set Vin1 to 0.
Vin1 IN1 0 0.0 Rser=.2 Cpar=1p??? ??? ; control pin, 0 V => on, 5 V => off

I have uploaded a schematic example using the symbol DIP16, because a schematic is much easier to understand the circuit.
ADG511_test.zip

Just unzip this file anywhere. You can then immediately simulate my example.

Please report this "wrong" pin VL in the interface of the model of ADG511DS.CIR to ADI. They may have made the same mistake with all variants of ADG511, ADG512 and ADG513. The email address is below.
