Hello,
The lib and sym files under "Program" are not used by LTspice. The real directory used by LTspiceXVII is in the personal folder "Documents". If a symbol is copied in this path, it's shown in the component selection without setting an extra path. C:\Users\Helmut\Documents\LTspiceXVII\lib\sym? Instead, on installation, a job is run that creates a directory in "My Documents" called LTspiceXVII and the whole lib structure is just copied there. LTspice then picks all live lib information from there. The same batch job is run when you do a sync update. I guess I can understand why this is done, but for me, it's a real pain. The reason for my annoyance was that because I am running IV and XVII side by side, I wanted to sync the lib folders in each, so I symlinked the one under IV to XVII. When I realised what was happening when I did an update, I cancelled the update without letting it finish. I kinda wish I hadn't, because it left my entire lib directory structure full of 0byte files. Fortunately, because I do practice what I preach, I was able to restore everything easily from SVN. Personally, I find the new method of library management in XVII really inconvenient, but probably because I went against "conventional wisdom" in the first place. When I work out how to make it work for me, I'll let you know. In the meantime, I've reverted to IV until I figure it out. Regards, Tony |

I am a work now, so I can't check home, but C:\Users\[me]\AppData\Roaming is where the LTspiceIV.ini has always been.? I make an edited, generic back up copy to store my settings because I always feared that a fresh install would overwrite whatever was there.? Sure enough, now that I've checked, LTspiceXVII.ini is there, too.

I've had a problem at home with the ini file being trashed by during LTspiceXVII update attempts.? When I add symbols to the library folders, LTspiceIV does see them.? I have not tried that with LTspiceXVII. I just repeated this case with the Laird-symbol. It looks like added symbols to the installation folders will not be shown in the component-menu. I have sent a message to Mike asking whether this is intended behavior. Let's see what Mike will answer. Alternatively one could copy the symbol and the model file to the schematic folder of course. LTspiceXVII symbol import problem:
Ive discovered some odd behavior -
I had created a bunch of my own symbols in IV. Ive tried to copy my symbol directory to the sym dir. as well as to the Misc dir, and even copied just the files to the sym directory. XVII refuses to see them. Any of you experience this? Ive already emailed to "help" about this. Al D. |

I think there are two things you need to do: .lib LairdTech_v2_0.lib (add that as a SPICE Directive to your schematic.) Then, edit "ModelName" on the symbol to be the name of the subcircuit you want to use.? For example: change it to?HI0805Q310R-10 if that is the bead model you wish to use. Also, make sure to have both the .asy file and the .lib file in the same directory with your schematic. This might not answer your question -- and there is more than one way to accomplish it.? I now understand the cause of the strange behavior.? I had "Enable beta circuit matrix operations" checked in the Hacks! tab of the Control Panel.? Apparently, among that option's various functions, it removes single component circuit islands. What is interesting is that my selection of this option managed to persist through a complete reinstall of the software.? The Control Panel's persistent settings must be stored in the registry or in a configuration file that does not get erased or overwritten.? The Tekscopes group looked at this several months ago, and came up with a solution though not perfect, appears to be a workable one. All messages and I think files, photos? were backed up to another site, I don't remember with out searching the Tekscopes messages and holding it in reserve if DISASTER came.
