Re: Analog Devices to buy LT!

Let's hope part of the deal is not that dreaded word rationalization (unlikely it's not!) unfortunately bean counters have a habit of being technically incompetent and like many have said they were rivals and then there is management politics and self interest at work so don't be so sure the result will be positive for this community!

Re: Analog Devices to buy LT!

? ?"With any luck they'll create LTspice models for their offerings."

Adding a bit more to my previous reply....

LTC's strength is in power conversion products and switchers, which benefit greatly from the special features in LTspice.? ADI's greater strength is in linear parts and converters, for which standard SPICE models work well.? In other words, the special hidden features built into LTspice, might not do as much to improve the models for the vast majority of ADI's parts.

This is supposed to be one of the reasons for ADI's interest in LTC -- the fact that LTC's product line doesn't overlap with ADI's.

hm, what about ADISIMPE? This is a version from Simetrix and also is using pspice models.

Hello,

I see no problem for the future of LTspice after this acquisition by Analog devices.
I read in the web that ADI is very interested on the power management ICs from LTC. I also see the advantage that all the SPICE models from ADI will be available/compatible for LTspice in the long run.

Watch the nice double-logo on this page.

? ?"ADI has its own in-house simulator, ADICE."

For its customers, Analog Devices offers ADIsimPE, which is based on SIMetrix/SIMPLIS.? Those programs are from a separate company ().? It does have schematic entry.? The SIMPLIS part of it is intended to speed up simulations of ?switching regulators and PLLs.

? ?"They're not likely to ... discard a superb customer tool like LTspice."

I agree.? I also hope they continue to support LTspice's continued development.

? ?"With any luck they'll create LTspice models for their offerings."

Many ADI products have SPICE models already.? LTspice models are SPICE models.? But we have seen occasional models from them that do not play friendly, or were plain wrong (e.g., wrong polarity or something similar).

I ran into the voltage controlled pots and found them very useful, but they all acted like variable voltage sources and I would like one that takes into account the internal resistance with a voltage controlled wiper. I'm not sure how difficult the math will be, but here's how I see it;

using a 10K pot, 10 volts applied, and the wiper at 50% and connected to a 5K load, the equivalent circuit would be a 5K resistor in series with a 2.5K resistor,1/2 of the 10K pot in parallel with the 5K load and have a voltage of 3.33 volts on it.. It's been a long time since I took calculus and algebra, so I have no idea what the math would be to show the voltage on the wiper as it moved from 0 to 100%.?

Thanks,

Jeff?

PS can you show the math? Please?

Do you want the formula - which is nothing but the standard voltage divider formula - or do you want to simulate it in spice?

Re: Analog Devices to buy LT!

ADI has its own in-house simulator, ADICE. It doesn't have the integrated schematic capture and waveform processing tools, but it's a very nice simulator.? They're not likely to make it available to non-employees any more than they're likely to discard a superb customer tool like LTspice.? With any luck they'll create LTspice models for their offerings.

Agree. Mike is associated with the power management group and has no ¡°mandate¡± to deal with RF parts, for example (he told me this on his last World Tour). Would not surprise me if that continues. A change would be pleasant.

Actually, the INA282 is not very new.? T.I.'s newest SPICE models for it are 5 years old.? The datasheet is newer, but was originally written in 2009, and the INA282 evaluation module user guide is 6 years old.

Use the "Table of Contents" file (all_files.htm) to search for files from this group's archives.? The group has 100MB of files, which are kept for a reason.
