Where is the 2023 sign-up spreadsheet? 2
Is there a signup spreadsheet for 2023? Where? When I clicked on last year's link, Google said the document is not there. 73, Mike N4CF x (x)

K2B and Parks on the Air
Hello fellow operators, I know a few of us will be doing Parks on the Air with the K2B call sign. Not sure how many more of you are POTA people. But I have added the K2B callsign to my club's (K4UK) pota account. So if you activate a park and use the K2B call sign, you'll need to send me you POTA adif file. That way I'll upload it to the POTA database and you'll still get the credit under your call sign for activating the park. The only tricking part is using the POTA spot page. So when I am activating, I'll spot myself as K2B/AA. that way my spot stays with me at my park. If we used just K2B and then other operator uses it to spot them at a park, the spot page will update with there info. I know it might sound a little confusing so if you have any question using K2B with POTA, please reach out to me. Good luck and have fun. 73 Tim / AA4SS email: timboyd@... Cell (540) 352-0330

Question 19
David, is there a special N1MM module for logging contacts as K2B, or should I just start a new DX log for that purpose? Jim, N3JT

Best Practices 4
This thread is intended to share "best practices" for a team effort. I will offer three: 1. Please respect other team members. When your slot is up, and someone is on the sheet for the next slot, please hand off to them. 2. If you are about to start a slot, please try to locate the operator who's in the slot before you (easy way - look for spots for K2B on dxsummit - if you don't know how to use dxsummit with filters, please email me off the thread and I can explain). If feasible, set up to operate on their frequency and do a smooth hand off -- exiting op says "please stand by, time for a K2B shift change ... are you there, Nick?" or whomever). If Nick or whoever is there, they jump right in and seamlessly continue. 3. Spot each other! Contacts are directly proportional to spotting. Yes, it's okay to spot oneself also. Once again, if you are unsure how to use dxsummit, check it out or email me off the thread. You can filter it to only provide spots for K2 stations, or just for K2B. Last email for today. I promise. Others having suggestions to help us look like a well-oiled ham radio machine (you can fool some of the people, some of the time ...) feel free to chime in. Vy 73, David, K2WPM

I just deleted N4CF from today's 11-12 40 CW slot. A lightning storm wiped out my PC (the radio is OK), and I'm scrambling to bring a replacement online. With luck, I'll be ready to my 8-9 slot tonight. I Sorry, folks. Mike N4CF

4PM 20M CW Slot Open
I just vacated the 4PM 20M CW slot. There is a building thunderstorm approaching, so I'm cranking down the tower and going to ground. Someone in a better corner of the state weather wise may be able to use it. 73, Chuck K4QS

I had to also delete N4CF from today's 8p-9p 40 CW slot. We're in a t'storm at this moment, and I dare not turn on the rig to check the COM ports to logging software. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Mike N4CF

80 FT8 Saturday night
I had more business than I expected this evening. I never had to transmit the CQ message more than twice before someone called. The QSO total was 41, one of which was a duplicate. That's not bad for FT8. There were several other K2x stations on the band/mode, which probably helped stir the pot. I self-spotted once at the beginning of my hour. On to Day 2! 73, Kay N3KN

Well, I'm out. The USB port on my K4d died, so it has no connection to the PC for logging. I have deleted N4CF everywhere in the spreadsheet. Sorry, folks. I got a new PC and installed the drives from the dead one, and it's running FB. I thought all I needed to do was plug in the USB cable from the rig, and I'd be good to go. That was not to be. Hopefully next year.... 73, Mike N4CF

My Schedule today
I have had to delete my 1 pm and 2 pm slots on 40 SSB today because I have a broken crown on a tooth and must go to the dentist to get it fixed at 1 pm-ish. Depending on how long it takes to get this done and what they have to do to the stupid tooth, I may be able to add some slots later in the afternoon. To say I¡¯m p. o.¡¯d doesn¡¯t come close. 73, Kay N3KN

Any non-zero number! 2
I got home from the dentist in time to do some FT4 on 20 starting a little after 2 and then did an hour on 20 FT8 from 3 to 4. Not a huge amount of business -- 54 contacts total, but any non-zero number is good. Last night I had to bag it on 40 meters FT8 after about 20 minutes and 40 QSOs into the 9 PM slot because of thunderstorms. Weather permitting, I'll do some 40 FT8 this evening. 73 Kay N3KN

Newbie Notes
Hello all, I'm a neophyte when it comes to contesting (FD is about it) but want to jump in and help with 13 colonies. Spent some time this afternoon seeing how things run (exchange style, etc.) and collected a few contacts by the way: K2J - NC on 40m CW K2B - VA on 40m SSB (was probably NX3A since it was between 4 and 5 pm) TM13COL - in France - a surprise to find on 15m CW. Had a great signal! The thunder is booming here right now, and I have seen others report the same. I guess that will be a regular occupational hazard since our contest runs in July! If things settle down, I may throw my hat in tonight on 80 or 40, otherwise I'll look for an empty slot to fill tomorrow and plunge in. Will fill in the spreadsheet if/when I take a slot. 73, Jim W4QE Bedford County, just outside of Lynchburg

a Factoid
So, being basically bored, as I¡¯m chasing K2E for my clean sweep and he/she is on the air, but not readable here in NO VA ... see below: here is the total licensed Ham population and for fun, the per capita population by each of the 13 Colonies... Of course you can argue how many of the 20, 811 hams in Virginia are active ... at best: 50% and probably lower than that. NY, NC and VA are the 3 states w/ the most number of Hams. New Hampshire and Maine have more Hams as a percent of the population. While NY have a lot of Hams, they also have by far the largest total population among the 13 Colonies with over 19 Million citizens. The problem with 75 phone is the incidence of malicious QRM and the groups of old barnacles who claim to have been conversing on some (perfectly silent) frequency since the Eisenhower administration. If someone can do CW or FTx on the band, then it may be worth the effort and not bring out the PITAs. So far, so blah
I did an hour on 40 SSB noon to 1 pm with a few dozen contacts ¡ª the page with the numbers is upstairs. Then went to 20 FT8 from 1 to 2 pm. Enough callers but lots and lots of retries that cut the throughput. About a hundred Qs for the 2 hours. Had a squeak of dumbassery on the 40m frequency but I ignored him and he didn¡¯t persevere. I¡¯m going back to 20 FT8/4 for the 3 pm slot and again at 9 pm. That may change since the upstairs heat pump died. It¡¯s kinda toasty in the radio room and I hope the repair tech will not arrive before I turn into a (baked) pumpkin. When the guy shows up I¡¯ll have to QRT to deal with him. 73, Kay N3KN
