Newbie questions

Paul N4PD encouraged me to GOTA as K2B (Louisa County), and David K2WPM told me to go ahead and sign up for some slots. I think I'm ready to go, but have questions.

1. What frequencies? Where do y'all hang out?

2. I know the exchange is supposed to be RS(T) plus state. Are ops adding anything else?

3. Is anyone signing off with 76 instead of 73? I.e., on CW: TNX ES 76. Just a thought.

4. Any special CQ, e.g., CQ 13 or CQ 13 COL?

5. TX power level?

Thanks for all info and pointers.

but have questions.

?

Anywhere above the Extra Class part of the band

?

2. I know the exchange is supposed to be RS(T) plus state. Are ops

adding anything else?

They can do whatever you want.

?

3. Is anyone signing off with 76 instead of 73? I.e., on CW: TNX ES 76.

Just a thought.

Not that I know of.? This is a nice idea though.

4. Any special CQ, e.g., CQ 13 or CQ 13 COL?

Noting special.? I¡¯ve been sending ¡®CQ 13¡¯

5. TX power level?

Anything you wish.? I have? been running full power

Thanks for all info and pointers.

Before you begin operating, spot yourself on the net.

1.? The regular band plans apply.
If you want to see where other K2* stations operate, go to dxsummit.
You can spot yourself, and see where others are - no need to sign up.
Here is the one I use, with filters to catch 13 Colonies.

2.? Most say 59 VA.? Beyond that, up to you.

3.? Hadn't heard that one, but no reason why not.

4.? Usually you would indicate 13 Colonies in your CQ.? That's easy for voice.? In CW I think most use CQ 13COL.

5.? No power limit ... except legal limit.

GL and good hunting.

David, K2WPM

I've been hanging out about 7.045. Somewhere above .025 and avoid .040 (FT4 on 40M) Same game plan for other bands. Use whatever speed you can copy. Most people will either be slower or try to match your speed. Here's what I do:

TX: CQ CQ K2B K2B

RX: callsign

TX: callsign 599 VA

RX: report (be ready to ask for their state)

TX: TU K2B

I don't really add much to the QSO unless it seems like a good idea. Every now and then, I dit-dit or 73 is OK.

Self spot if you can. When things get slow, I send out a spot. With N1MM, enter K2B in the callsign window, then Alt-P to post, Alt-W to clear the window.

Hope this helps! Good luck.
