The speaker field can be replaced with a 1500 ohm, 10 Watt wire wound resistor. See the schematic for the S-40 or S-40A for details. I am not sure what the plate load for the transformer should be but

Do a search on eBay for Steampunk electronics and you will see several vendors selling meters and other electronics. You may find good deals on stuff they have no clue about. Dwight
