Re: S-40B - What is the socket on the back for?
I stand corrected on something ¨C there are interesting notes on this in the Osterman book. Actually, there were AC/DC variants of the S-40B ¨C they were the S-77 and S-77A. There was also a SC-77A

Re: S-40B - What is the socket on the back for?
Forgot to mention... if you're going to use a grommet, a small, very tight tye-wrap close to the exit hole will keep the cord from moving. K3HVG

Makes me wonder what the internal electrical situation was when you plugged it in one way, versus the other. Craig, VE3OP

Re: S-40B - What is the socket on the back for?
I am going with a rubber grommet for the hole, rather than drilling the original hole out. Interesting yours has a significant amount of extra label glue on the back, like mine. Were they EVER sloppy

Re: S-40B - What is the socket on the back for?
No, the plated hole is a rectangle vs. a round panel mount fuse holder. It wouldn't fit properly and would stil look ugly. I am going to drill a hole for the fuse holder. It will still look fairly

Re: general question re polarized ac plugs on receivers as shipped originally
To my best recollection, and what's on hand, I have never seen one up to and including SX-115, HT-32B, and various power supplies for later tranceivers. I've always had to add them. K3HVG

Re: S-40B - What is the socket on the back for?
In my opinion, I would (and have) re-capped my keeper S-40B. I replace all the tubular caps and configure the electrolytic with under chassis installation, leaving the can for visual effect. The one

Re: S-40B - How to change to a three-prong AC plug?
Thanks Don - this is a lot of info to chew on, to come to a final decision. There is got to be a way to modify the radio so that you don't have a hot switch or chassis, and the ground wire from a

Thanks Steve - that explains the connector mystery. The plate on my second radio is sure ugly. They should have just popped in a connector.
