Hi Rick! In looking over the power supply schematic and in view of my own experience with a PS-500 power supply, I think I can safely say that Hallicrafters did not know how to design power supplies.

Just a thought but if it is indeed choke input, you might consider putting the choke on the negative side if a bridge, or the center tap if otherwise. That way, way less voltage across the choke. Jeep
