Mac,

I'll probably do the same. Go out by myself. Might do it with a KX2 or Yeasu 100W (or both).?If I take out my RV, I would enjoy doing both QRP and 100W.?

?

We have friends that run a motel just south of Crater Lake NP and I would like to visit them. So maybe I'll play radio there.?

?

No groups for me. I too am not ready for that. Plus if I go by myself I can take off my mask. The Covid 19 issue may get worse as the George Floyd protests brought large crowds together in Washington, Philadelphia, Portland, Eugene, LA, etc. No sense in worrying about a second phase of the pandemic when the first phase isn't over yet. Was there lots of protests in TN?

On a slightly different note:
What are all you guys planning for Field Day under the current circumstances?

I will probably be doing a park battery/solar oeration somewhere relatively local, but not sure exactly where yet.

A few club members are champing to do a scaled-down event, but no real consensus as to how & where. And I don’t think I’m ready to play with groups who, for the most part, are “mask-intolerant” or otherwise “let’s get back to normal”.
Might be time to relocate again - the Caribbean calls!

Fear of Flying

Health experts say that fears of catching a bug on a plane are overblown. “Research shows that [planes] are much safer than other enclosed spaces, mainly due to the design of the air filtration systems,” said Dr. Erin Bromage, an associate professor of biology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. His advice: Position the air nozzle, which blasts purified air, your way for the entire flight.

Re: Border Closure Extension

Good morning all (very early GM to you, Peter),
Sorry to hear you won’t be making the trek, but understandable and not unexpected.

Glad all are doing well, all things considered. I think the adage of April showers bring May flowers has become: “May showers bring mud and misery”. We are getting more rain than needed, scattered T’storms for most of the last week and continuing on through all of next week as well.

I still may try to sneak in a few hours with the KX2 and a new antenna or two sometime next week (in between the raindrops) since Tennessee has opened up most of the State Parks and some of the Nat’l Park System has reopened in a limited fashion.

Like Joe, my calendar has gotten very sparsely populated, with only medical appointments and such listed. Club Field Day will be a non-starter, for me at least. If the WX breaks by the end of June, I’ll go do a portable/battery/solar effort somewhere in the area.

I agree we should have a discussion in early June. 1 & 2 wide open, Wednesday the 3rd in the afternoon probably OK too. Thursday I’m not sure about yet.

Mac/WT4BT

Sorry you won't be with us this year.? I'm unsure at this point if Barbara and?I will be able to do the Portland to Boston flight on September 2.? I expect the US/New Brunswick border entry to be open by then, but the cross-country air is more dependent on how the virus declines.

I'm reading the news from NB and PEI. They are handling the coronavirus in a reasonable manner, IMHO. They are re-opening some business now. Most festivals have been canceled. Massachusetts is still?increasing...Maine is not deeply affected an what they have is declining.

Maybe we need to do a ZOOM meeting on or after June 1 to discuss what we each think we should do.? What does everyone think?
