Delete group email

Hi. Hoping someone here can help.
?
i need to delete the subscribe groups email link from our main page. We don¡¯t want people to use the groups email to ask to join. In the text section on that page we have instructions to request membership and it doesn¡¯t use a groups email alias.I¡¯ve read the manual about 6 times and can¡¯t find how to do that.
?
Help! And many thanks!

If you're referring to the address shown under "Group Email Addresses", it cannot be deleted/hidden, at least in free & premium groups, the Enterprise groups can customize their home page but I have no clue as to what extent.

And even if it wasn't shown, people could still use that yourgroupname+subscribe@gio address to try to subscribe to your group as that the groups.io standard subscribe (by email) format for any group.

Cheers,
Christos

Well, that explains why I couldn¡¯t find directions. Very annoying. Just another reason we need to find another host. Many thanks for solving the issue, Christos!?

Just out of curiosity why don't you want them to email to join?

We want to send them an invitation to join. No one reads there are dues to be paid, for example, they just hit subscribe, we get the alert and then I send the invitation with the information and they just don¡¯t reply. Lots of extra work on our end.?

So how does one apply - just briefly¡ª ?if they don't apply for membership?
?
Could a ¡°Pending Membership¡± auto notice somehow lessen the pain/wasted time? ?The auto notice (with no action on your part) could explain about the dues. ?
?
I don't use that auto-notice but perhaps others on here do and use it for that purpose and could assist you.?

Merle -- Our parent organization accepts dues payment and collects membership information via . New members are subsequently Direct Added to the associated GIO group. In that context I agree it would be nice to be able to remove the join link and disable the +subscribe email function. Unfortunately, you have to pay dearly for that (Enterprise fees).
?
If you make your group Restricted, at least that will keep people from joining all willy-nilly. At that point you can create a Member Notice to automatically redirect them to the actual signup location. This can be either a Pending Subscription notice or a Rejection notice. We use Rejection, but one works about as well as the other.
?
In either case, a group admin has to periodically log onto groups.io and process the Pending applications.
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce

On the main page we have a TO JOIN notice to send an email with certain info. They will then be sent an invitation thru .?

To be honest we can¡¯t stand the manual/help.? Nobody in our group ? knows how to do anything with , nothing is easy to learn or follow. And things like this where decides what we can and can¡¯t do on our main page. Somebody is exploring other options but we need to use until we find a better option.

That's pretty much standard on any type of site.? The site determines what you can or can't do.? Otherwise the site might change daily, depending on the mood of the users.? You always have the option of upgrading your group to Enterprise so you have more control.
...we need to use until we find a better option.
Good luck with that.? Finding anything better, especially for free, is going to be a real challenge!

We¡¯d be more likely to stay with groups if they provided support.

I don't recall any site that provides better support.? There are the official support avenues, as well as Group_Help (this group) and GroupManagersForum (GMF) for volunteer support.? The manuals have everything that's needed to run a group (as far as I can tell) and have been updated a lot lately to cover all the changes that have been made to the site.? Many things, such as the discussion that started this topic, are revised by the site owner when it will benefit many/most of the users.? Of course, the priority is for groups that are paying, but at least the free groups aren't subjected to the endless ads that other sites use to pay for the 'free' stuff.? Try accessing the owner of any other site to see if changes can be made ( and when) to see how difficult it is, then you'll appreciate Groups.io even more.? Complaining about this site certainly won't get you much respect around here!

A change was made to the site - specifically in response to your needs - and you're still arguing that groups.io support is inadequate?
?
Please forgive me if I find that incomprehensible.

Bruce and All,

I have always found your and??support immensely helpful. In the last 25 years, I¡¯ve used two such platforms
before joining??and it is by far the best in every way. Every question answered helpfully and with kind
patience. Very glad to have found this platform. Very fortunate indeed!

Please know that it, and you, and others working with you, are greatly appreciated!

What change are you referring to? I made a text change to the info on our main page after spending days reading thru the manual 3 times. And someone here told me that I can¡¯t delete certain info because it¡¯s not a feature.? I never got replies to my questions when I sent to the folks. After googling I found this help from other users email.? So what is incomprehensible? I¡¯m confused.

It wasn't a feature when you asked, it is now.? If you had read, and followed, the information that has been included in the replies to your topic, you'd have seen /g/Group_Help/message/7775, which tells you that a change was made to the site to allow you to remove the Join button, just as you wanted.? It was actually a member here that made on the beta group because of your, and others, similar requests.

You asked about being able to turn off being able to self-join and being able to join only by invitation.?
That was not an option.?
The change is - that is now an option.?

Tell us if you get that sort of response/support from another forum platform? ?And if so, which?

Wondering why you would Google about this help forum or rely on picking it up ftom others¡¯ emails - GIo has a help page and the GMF and Help forums are linked right there.?
